I looked at small trailers, and large wagons and didn't see anything that I felt good about. I only need to tote a small cooler, and some small items, < 150 lbs. But I need some bracing. Welding is out of the question (so I didn't go to the fabricating forum). I am thinking of using heavy duty turn buckles, but need advice on the best location to place them.

a. Top of the back plate to the top rail on the carrier. (May have a slippage issue at both ends)

b. Install "D" rings in the back plate and go from there to the top rail. (May have slippage on the top rail)

c. Top of the back plate to the receiver hitch chain bar.

d. Install "D" rings in the back plate and to the receiver hitch chain bar.

Eye bolts in the hitch plate to hook turnbuckles to, with the other end of the turnbuckles connected to the bail on the receiver tube. Same idea as the bungee in the last pic.

The carrier was designed to be supported by the receiver tube alone. You just have to make it strong enough to do the job.

Bob is right, to a certain extent; the other issue is the torsional forces that will quickly kill that thin hitch plate. I'd recommend an eye bolt in the top center on the tractor side with a cable on each side going out to the carrier at ~45 degree angles.

Larry. I'd go w/ two 3/8ths turnbuckles w/ hooks from the top of the back plate and add chain to reach the bottom rail just out board of the short up right behind the tires IF the chain will clear the tires. This way you'll get some lift on the frame and also keep the hitch bolt from letting it turn from side to side.

You have two holes on the hitch plate install an eye bolt in each. Ex-brace with your chain and turn buckles to the top rail with your D-rings. I would also add some 1/8 inch
flat steel about 6" long to the inside of the top rail where you bolt your D-rings.

The only way I see that you can make that work is to remove the hitch you have and nuy a longer tube that will go up under your tractor. Hook both ends of the tubing to your tractor and use it for your hitch.

Thanks all, after getting this I realize that to make it permanent I will need to have some welding done. I would need to source a second rear plate for this, as I don't want to modify the orginal. For now (and only to be used for a day) I'll go with the eye bolts, and turn buckles, and pick up some 1/4 cable and clamps to stabilize it. Thanks again.

One thought (using a second rear plate) would be to add 5/16 gusset plates to the sides of the hitch and weld to the back plate. This would be for a later project.

Add wheelie casters to the rack because when you start carrying anything on that rack, you're going to be popping one.
I think the 20hp Onan will offset the wheelie issue, and "If" I need to haul something heavy, I can stick the snow blower on for a counter weight........ Wait Did I just think of a use for a snow blower in Texas! :sidelaugh

I thought of adding two pneumatic tired caster wheels on the rear corners of the rack, that would prevent any wheelies, take the weight off the tractor and the hitch--but if you drove over a lumpy section of ground, the casters might tend to let the tractors rear tires lose their contact and you'd get high centered..

What you need is one of those hitches that Sears_ST was looking for in thread...

http://www.mytractorforum.com/14-craftsman-sears-forum/812778-looking-trade-3-point-hitch-2-receiver-hitch.html

a bit $$ for my taste.
As usual, a day late and dollar short. For whai I just spent on turn buckles, and the ATV receiver, I could have added $25 more and got this. I still might. I have two tractors that this would fit.

Well the turn buckles worked, but are a little long so I had to modify how to place them. I used a front deck pin off Hulk's deck. Doesn't give any with my 250 lbs standing on it, I bounced a little and the front wheels stayed put on the ground. and as long as I keep the weight sorta centered should work fine for the day. Easy enough to remove it just ride around. I may leave the carrier off, unless I find something there, then go install the carrier to get the item(s). We will try riding around this weekend to see how that works.
