How tough are tractor tires?
What has punctured your tires?
What has failed to puncture your tires?
I keep picking up pieces of old metal, re-rod and nails from around my place, and sometimes I wonder… My front tires are pretty thin, and all 4 are water filled.

No one ever owned a tractor on this plot before. The last owner had a donkey!!! Well, a decade or three ago when he was young. I even have the old plow.

Going to depend on the ply rating of your tyres.
Some of the cheaper tractor tyres are going to puncture with a nail, but the forestry type tyres will quite happily run over piles of sharp scrap metal.

Jim, now you aren't trying to make us believe your fields over there across the pond are full of scrap metal are you? I've been there and you fellas have some beautiful farm land. I love the hedge rows surrounding the fields. It's a beautiful country, you should be proud! My daughter in law came from Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. My son and her were married in the family church there. The whole family flew over for the wedding. Boy, the English sure know how to throw a party! Whew, did we have fun! Wonderful memories. PJ

Paul, you found a lovely part of the country to visit.
My parents live a stones throw from Stoke. Oddly enough their fields are full of scrap, I pulled out near on 1/2 ton with a digger last time I was there! :D

Mark, should say on there somewhere what rating they are.
If I spot something I usually pick it up, might not cause a puncture, but its good to clear up the junk. Not much more you can do that that.
A big magnet will take the hassle out of picking nails up. I have even seen strip magnets hung across the front of machines before to pick stuff up before they cause a puncture.

Don't bet the farm that their "that" tough.I've had a thorn from a black locust tree flatten a high dollar 14.9x24 Goodyear tire, more than once. The thorn in question looks just like an ice-pick,same sharpest, same size, just shorter about 3" long. And wooden of course. If you've never seen such a tree,it will scare **** out of you, just thinking about bumping into it.:hide:It is however great fence post material. It's what you see on a country road that's been there forever,split/rail fence is what we call it.

I ruined a rear tire on a piece of steel that cut the side wall. A new tire cost me $200 and now one side of my tractor is an inch higher than the other. :ROF

I have a tire machine and had a rusty wheel on the front of my tractor. I bought a new wheel and mounted the tire and tube. I never could make it hold air. Each time I broke it down I found a new hole in the tube. I finally brought it to a local shop that sold me the rear tire and they successfully patched it. So far no more flats on that tire. :i_praying

The other front tire has been fine and leak free. The tractor has been laid up doing some past due maintenance. The tractor hasn't moved in 3 months. Last weekend I started the engine and the tire started leaking and going flat. :duh:

Farming in England isn't as worry free as you might think. You never know when an old Roman sword or spear might turn up in a field and turn your tractor tire into junk. :ROF More than two thousand years of raping, pillaging, boozing, fighting and general rowdyism have gone on there so you never know what the plow may turn up. And that's not counting what still goes on today. :hide: :sidelaugh
