How to move a rider with stuck rear axle

Recent score: $40, 80 or so Yard Man 16hp hydro with 44" 2 blade deck. Briggs 16hp vertical opposed twin. 22x7.5-12 rear tires/wheels on axle with keyway. I pulled one of the rear wheels off. That took about 20 minutes of wiggling the darn wheel before it finally slide off. I then removed the keyway, put wheel back on with washer and holding pin and it slid down the ramps and on the ground fine. With my back being tight this was better than trying to wrestle the 500 pound mower down the ramps by myself.

Disabling the keyway sure was creative thinking. I used snowmobile movers on my Yard-Man to move it around the shop until I could get a new tires. Good luck with fixing the tranny! :wwp:

LOL I have the same model. 84'. Bought it last year for $200, all works fine, and it came with 90 something 21" murray walkbehind with bad drive wheels bushings...

Smart thinking! Like the above poster when I brought my super home with a blown motor once we got it in the garage I put it on car dolleys to move it around. Worked very well. I could pull it out to work on it and easily get it out of the way when I was using the shop for something else. The older I get the more important it becomes to work smarter not harder.

Boyd,
You could have taken a screwdriver and loosened up the stuck brake pad. But your alternative was creative and effective.
