One of my D600's got stripped when I attempted to take a compression test. The brass fitting went in smoothly but somehow crossed when I tried to remove it. I had to force it out which stripped the threads. Used a plug thread repair kit(heli-coil), and it's been fine since.

thats what i always seem to be doing.but be careful that you use the real deal heli coil because theres a thread insert thats out there and i tried one of them,it worked until i went to go check the park plug and it wanted to unthread.

Use a flat rubber washer or orings to create a seal yet give you space between the end of the brass fitting on the gauge and the plug hole. Making about the same depth of a fully seated spark plug. Just barely snug, and you should be okay. You'll know if it leaks down when you hit compression. You should hear it and see it on the gauge. I was quite upset when I damaged this engine, so I contacted Lisle Tools, maker of the gauge, and they sent me a new adapter. Been okay since.

Yes stripped threads are kinda common with aluminum, I think Lawnboy should have manufactured the jugs with helicoils right out of the factory, most aircraft parts manufacturers install them at the factory and include them in the illustrated parts breakdown for that component. I suppose they were already one of the highest priced mowers on the market though and as much as they wanted to install them I bet they just really couldn't afford to.
