ok now i talked to Bill and he told me there is a race, then a snap ring and then a seal in the back. seems they all go in though the case side. any easy way of getting them out. all i can think of is to pry though the seal to get to the race and pound it out, then pop the snap ring out then the seal.

feel like im talking to myself. got the race, seal and snap ring out. the gog fell out the back and just pulled the seal out the back. thinking why cant i put the seal in though the back. you know, install the snap ring then the race, for the case side, then put the seal in though the back. have though about putting the race in form the back side, then id be hitting the back side of the race. any reason no to do it this way.

i see. unfortunately this one had sat for many years. it was inside a garage, but still sat. tires off the wheels, but they arent dry-rotted and do hold air. paint is shiny, carb was gummed up, rebuilt it, but this main shaft bearings being rusted was a complete surprise. at least the tiller part turns freely. honestly it was pretty easy to get apart. and Bill was helpful as for what to look for. well ill be glad when i get my tranny parts and am able to see it actually move. guess its like a puzzle, wait for the parts, put it together and see if it works. the only problem im having with the carb rebuild is with the choke fully open it will die. like a vacuum but i know i dont have one, now i did put a inline fuel filter and that might be restricting the fuel flow. and i also had to replace the emulsion tube, hope they sent me the right one. well all and all it give me something to look forward to. and give me something to do in the afternoons.

so i dont have much patience and i know i have some bearings sitting around some where. and there they are, there a new set of bearings and races id bought for my 90 harley softail years back. well what do you know, they are the same ones has my horse main shaft ones, because the part number stamped on the races are exactly the same, and i mic them. what are the odds. i know they use the same bearings for many different applications but the odds of this.

Well done finding the same bearing. The TB manual rely is your best resource. All service info is there. I have an '81 Horse with PTO. I recently refurbished a '78 non PTO. Take your time. They are not hard. The hardest part is removing the wheels. Weld a big nut and make a puller. You will be glad you did. Just leave the nut.

well all im waiting on now are the seals and gaskets, but im also getting new bearings and races, didnt know at the time that i had a set the same. already figured out a seal installer and race installer. everything is pretty much clean, thats the one advantage of having to wait, get to clean everything up.

Yep, i look at something for a bit, then go off & do something else while i formulate a plan.
My Horse manual has always been a great help, that is until i sold the tiller when i found out i can buy from the Mennonites a whole lot cheaper than working my rearend off for it:fing32:

well everything is ready, just need seals and gaskets. at least this will be a one time thing for me. just a shame that it sat for so long that this happened. and it was in a garage. at least the tines turn smooth and the tires are still holding air.

nope, inside. no rust anywhere else on the machine. anyway thanks to Bill Rodgers i got what i needed today, he ships fast. installed and IT'S ALIVE. may have to make a few adjustments but it running great. my bumper/engine guard comes tomorrow, along with a can of paint to match it to the machine. have to clean it back up after and take a pic of it. ran it around the yard and tore up some ground, backed it up and checked the safety switches attached to the end of each handle.
