The question that I have is: Are some parts equivalent to John Deere? I am trying to get power flow for my 48 deck, and some say that it is the same thing as John Deere. They couldn't produce the exact tractor/deck # that it would be the same thaing as. Did you hear anything like that? Do you know for sure the deck or tractor? I'd love to hear your opinions. Based on some pics, it looks as if the last versions made in the USA by Honda are pretty similar as the Sabre which was made by John Deere. Model HA4118 and HA 4120. The decks supposedly will interchange with some LT and GT series John Deere models.

This deck appears to be identical to the deck on some early model John Deere's.

If I didn't already have three decks all in excellent condition and if I needed a newer deck because an existing one is beyond repair, I would get a used John Deere deck like the one above and cut the brackets off of a Honda deck and reweld unto this deck.

What I like about the deck above is the wheels allowing you to pull the deck from underneath the mower because the wheels can be turned inside the mounting brackets.

I would think it would be doubtful that it would be bolt on.

I am in the process of mounting my 36 blower on one of my 3813's. I was hopeful it would fit instead on my 4514. It will not without modifications to some of the the brackets or unless I fabricate new brackets.

You have to consider how the blade assembly bolts to the underside of the the frame in addition to the lift handle and brackets and counter weight springs. I guess you can make anything fit if you have the tools to fabricate all of the parts to make it work.

The blade is only a push blade. You aren't able to load this blade like a blade that is hydraulically controlled like those on John Deere 300 and 400 series.

With those you hyraulically force the blade down by the weight of the front end of the tractor. Apply enought downward tilt/pressure and you will actually lift the front end of the tractor off the ground.

A push blade essentially rides the ground surface on runners with only its own blade weight to hold it down on the surface.

So unless it a direct bolt on - do you want to chance a lot of extra fab work to get it to fit only to be disappointed because the unit doesn't push snow like you expected it would?

You see a lot of John Deere brand spanking used but new push blades on ebay and Craigslist for the Lowes box mowers and pretty cheap - compared to 20 year old John Deere 300/400 series hydraulically controlled blades which still bring between 500 and 750. I suspect because they don't push as much snow as people expect them to.

I will also be mounting a small push blade on the my other 3813. I got it for free. It is a Simplicity - fabbed to fit a 3813/4213. I'll let you know how it works if it ever snows here in Kansas.

I got these two units (3813's) so cheap - I plan to just leave them as they are -blade on one, blower on the other.

i originally bought the snow plow with my 3813 - 1st winter we had some snow and i went to use it was a joke - with less than 2" of snow on the driveway (asphalt) it didn't have the weight to push once the snow built up in front of the blade. Prior to that i had a 20 yr old Toro yard tractor that handled the snow just fine, but it had the right tires, etc

the 3813 (and i don't think the 4518 is very far off in the weight category) is too light - definitely need better tires than the turf tires on it, and some serious suitcase wgts on the rear end -

we have so little snow here in richmond, va i ended up throwing the plow away about 1995 or so

Thanks Larry, you confirmed my suspicions about having or putting a blade on the 3813/4213 - 4514/4518 and expecting to push or move a lot of snow.

But if you have a John Deere 318 or 425 series - then you can move some snow with a blade or blower.

This kit would probably be easier to adapt to fit on your 4518.

You would probably have to fabricate new plates that bolt to the underside of the frame or modify the ones in the kit because there might be a difference in frame width between the 3813/4213 and 4514/4518. The lifting mechanism (lift handle) bolts to these plates.

Another thing to consider is if the frame length is longer than the 3813/4213 series. If so the brackets and lift handle assembly will mount forward by the difference to accomodate the additional length of the frame.

The pics below (my 3813) show the brackets thats hold the lift assembly to the frame (the brackets in the blade kit are not shown). It appears as if the lift assembly for the blade kit and snowblower kit are the same.

These two brackets in pics mount to the left and right front of the frame. Whether they are the same as what is needed for the blade is unknown because the blade kit pics doesn't show all of the parts? The holes for these brackets are already pre-drilled on the 3813/4213 frame. However they proably won't fit on the frame on the 4514 because it is different so the frame would have to be modified to mount the brackets.

I found out it will fit these models 175, L175, LA175, D170, G110, 190C, and more. This has everything but the pulley for the deck. " Would that fit my Honda 48" deck? Here's a pic of a Sabre (I referred to in an earlier post). IMO this model resembles the Honda HA4118/4120 series which some say were manufactured by John Deere. Some say the attachments might be interchangeable between the Sabre made by John Deere for Scotts and the Honda 4118/4120 made by John Deere for Honda.

However I don't think the deck or blade drive assembly on the HA4120 is remotely close to the deck on your 4518.

Based on pics of older model John Deere's with a Power Flow attached it appears as if the Power Flow is belt driven by the right most blade pulley on the John Deere deck - meaning you will have to fabricate/modify the pulley assembly on the Honda deck by adding an extra pulley that will drive the Power Flow.

Are you sure you want to do this? It's a project I wouldn't want to tackle unless I had access to a machinist who could cnc me a new spindle shaft that I could add an extra pulley onto or modify the John Deere two pulley to fit the Honda spindle shaft.

You also have consider if there is enough belt wrap on the right-most pulley on the Honda deck so it will also drive the Power Flow and not slip.

And you will also have to make a cover to protect the operator from stepping onto the belt when getting off the mower or risk a lost toe or two or worse a foot if they have disabled the seat safety switch. How many people do you see riding a lawn mower with flip flops?

Personally I think you should try to stay with parts and or attachments made by the same mfr for the same company (Honda).

I searched all of your posts - maybe I missed some of them. But in this thread this is the first time you mention that you have a 4120.

If you have a 4518 and a 4120 then it should be apparent what the differences are and why an attachment (deck, blade, snowblower, powerflo)for one might not fit on one or the other.

Even on John Deere's not all decks interchange on all models.

Below is a pic of the deck (one) for a 4120. You will probably have to search through a John Deere or Sabre parts book or ebay for pics of the John Deere decks the powerflow you bid on was made for. Maybe they are similar but I doubt the deck that is only two years old will be the same as what they made 10 - 15 years ago. BTW - it looks very similar to the deck on the Sabre and what you see on older John Deere GT 200 and 300 series mowers.

The powerflow that is on the Sabre that is for sale might fit your 4120. You might email the seller and see if the seller will send you pics of the powerflow attached to the deck on this model Sabre. The pulley that drives the powerflow is critical. When mounted will it stick up so far, you will not be able to raise the deck completely because of lack of enough clearance.
