Hi all

I have a very old Honda 4514 and have just dismantled and put back together the pto clutch.

I'm now at the stage where you adjust the clutch.

The workshop manual says you have to remove the return spring then push the control plate to the adjusting bolt and set the clearance.

I don't understand this as then there is a gap between the adjusting bolt and the control plate so it doesn't do anything. Currently the pto brake is stuck on when engaged and the engine stalls so I definitely need to adjust.

Appreciate this is an ancient mower but am rebuilding a lot of it and trying to get it right.

I had to read that section multiple times before it made any sense to me. fwiw, I found my PTO cable was hanging up in the housing and not releasing fully, causing my PTO issues. I think the bolt is to prevent over-travel when engaging, but should not be touching normally, (could be remembering wrong, just did all that to mine last winter.)

I got mine to work in the end by grinding off the friction material around the edge of the clutch so the brake won't stop it. Obviously not the correct way but it works 🙂
