I was wondering if railroad spikes would work as the shanks for my build? I have a few of them lying around.

Don't see why they wouldn't work. If you could think of a way to make them easily replaceable, you could possibly have an endless supply.

I got my hands on an 18" long 1" square piece of hardened stock and he has 2 more for me to use so I hope the guy finds them. I will cut them in half and have 6 rippers to use so the spikes will be on hold unless he doesn't find them.

ask a farmer for the worn out points from a plow or cultivator. If you want quick and easy bolt on points go to a farm equipment parts dealer and look at cultivator points
