I thought I'd share a photo of my home built tilt trailer. It's not a great photo, I'll put more photos and details up in time. I built it for transporting my Kubota B7001 and slasher or others may call it a Brush Hog or Topper. The trailer deck is 3.5 meters long and 1.3meters wide (ish).
It needs a few (plenty of) adjustments but so far so good and it does the job.
I based the design on what is called a golf cart trailer. It has a few changes including a longer and stronger draw bar and a longer deck. The deck if solid tread plate where as some are perforated steel. I wanted solid so that I could take it camping and not get my gear wet from underneath.
There are a few things that need changing, one is the springs. They are second hand and I was told they are Toyota Hilux leaves eye and slipper. They flatten when loaded and although they flex well and ride well I feel they are maxed out and just old, rusty and tired. I'd like to replace them with heavier ones.
I want to put sides on it too.

Simon, curious to know the weight of your Kubota . That is some rops(roll over protection system), don't think it would fit in my garage because of its height.
Here's my latest addition to my trailers.

Nice trailer, Simon! Read my post about broken spring - right, I would definitely get better springs, and that soon.

Hey Guy,
I've just read your post about broken springs. It got me a bit worried. That's for sure.
My mentor is a pretty clever guy who, amongst other things builds race engines for the Saudi's. I asked him about the possibility of breaking a spring, he told me the chances were very remote.
Anyhow I'll be improving that for sure. I've got a slashing job to do in the next few days. I'll get to it soon.
We've just had good rain, so the lawn looks good. Thanks heaps for the comment.
stoon boy, Your trailers are a cut above mine mate. Very nice. I'll take some ideas off you if you don't mind !
The ROPS was on it when I got it. Yeah, I can't get it under cover. I'm thinking of fixing some lights on to the ROPS and also some sort of shade. You guys are getting ready for snow while I'm getting burnt to a crisp !
The factory spec says the Kubota weighs just under 500 kg. Mine has water in all tyres as well. I'm not sure of the weight of the slasher. I'm guessing around 200kg.
Thanks guys for the comments. I really appreciate it.
It's been lots of hard work and nice to get a few positive comments.
It gives me confidence to keep working on it !:fing32:

That's the ticket, Simon! One benefit of this site is to give confidence; at least, it does that for me.

I guess breaking a spring might be a remote possibility, but mine did, so I am a little sensitive to springs now. Mine are very old, and a tad on the light side, even though my boat is not heavy, but I have been pulling it a lot lately. Me - I would put new springs on your trailer, if you think they are too rusty. Having said that, your mentor sounds like he knows what he is talking about. Good to have someone like that around!

Something you tilt bed guys might be interested in - Many years ago my first tilt bed trailer was a heavy steel one that crashed down whenever you drove over center. Twenty-five years or so ago I built a trailer. I welded a bracket with an eye on one side of the tongue and one on the upper part of the front of the bed and mounted a chevy rear shock between them. Now the trailer goes up and down with a smooth swissshh. A rear shock has a longer stroke. You guys with heavier tractors may want to think about a truck rear shock.

I was in aclands-granger picking up so parts for work the otherday and on the counter was an brouchure for a tilting trailer ball assembly.
It fit in the reciever of trailer hitch and had 2 side plates with a veriaty of holes drilled in so you could ajust the hieght of the ball quite a bit.
You would set it high to tilt trailer back and then move it back after loading for travel.
Anyone ever used one or seen one?

I like the idea of the shocks. I've got some mates who work on trucks, so I might be able to get one. I'm very keen.
Wilf, I reckon that's an idea. I worked very hard when building and designing to get my trailer level when loaded.
If I change vehicles I don't want to have to redesign the trailer. Something like what you have mentioned would help level the load, regardless of trailer or vehicle. Do you have an image of it ?

Simon, being from western Canada, I'm not familiar with the term "slasher" , is it like a bush hog, a tow behind mower or is it like a sickle mower. See we all learn from this site.

Oh yes. Sorry about that. I'm a little old and set in my ways. Ha ! It's what you guys call a bush hog, a tow behind mower. We Aussies call em a slasher. I'm told the British call it a Topper.
At first I thought Bush Hog was a brand, rather than a description.
