OK, so I've looked all over and can't find a chart to date my tecumseh 15HP engine. HH150 170001 s/n 1291E. The reason I am interested is because this engine is sitting on my 1556 that I am restoring. The engine, under the previous coat of paint is yellow. It obviously came off of another tractor so I'm curious if it's newer or older than 1972. Anyone know how to decode the s/n on these engines ?? :thanku:

Based on the s/n I would say you have a 1971 Tec engine.
1291E 1 is the year; 291 is the day and E is the line your engine was built on.

Thank you very much. Pretty close to the year my 1556 was made 1972.

Ed, It is likely that your 1556 actually had a 1971 Tec engine in it. I have a 1257 that was built in 1970 and the Tec engine in it is from 1969. I know the engine is the original one for the tractor.
