First thing that pops into my mind is a bad wire/s to the plugs....or a loose connection.
....oh, pardon me....didn't catch it was your first post.

Is it still positive ground? Do you have battery voltage at the coil? If you put a test light on the wire that goes from the distributor to the coil, does it flash when you roll the engine over?

Welcome to MTF, What part of Illinois you from?

Is the points gap set correctly?
If you take the dist. cap back off, you can watch the points open and close. With the key on and the engine rolling over, you should see a small spark at the points contact each time they open. Do you?
Wilmington,No spark across points, yes voltage from battery to coil and from coil to distributor?????? Thanks for the quick replies
If you put a test light on the wire that goes from the distributor to the coil, does it flash when you roll the engine over? That will tell us if the points are making contact, a lot of the new points will have a thin coating on them that can be a pain to remove.
