I have my used 345 up and running great. I have found a used JD mechanical 30" tiller about 80 miles away for a great price. I want to make sure it will fit my tractor before I go to look at it. I have the model and serial numbers and am trying to find a place on the web to check for fitment. Can any one help?

Thanks Jim!

I found this while you replied.

According to the owner on the phone,
Model 30" 022400A
Product ser. MOSCTLXO15354

According to the link I posted above it is the right serial # for my 345. Am I correct?

He stated it looks hardly used and does not know what tractor it was used on. He has had it in storage for many years ? He wants $175 for it.

I'm not familiar with those model and serial numbers. Which leads me to think that tiller is painted black and made for the Saber and Scotts brand garden tractors made by John Deere. It seems I've read they are interchangeable, you would need to purchase the correct attaching parts for your tractor, and you would need the lift linkage installed.

Do you know if your tractor has the lift kit installed? Did it ever have a blade, snowthrower on it?

Hopefully someone that knows more about it will chime in.

But hardly used and $175.00, that's a steal!

It has no lift kit. Just been used as a mower.

Yes it is black. Here it is!

Read Post #132 until the end of the thread..........Sternzy has one just like it.

I think where the problem is some of the lift brackets are no longer available from John Deere, you would have to fab some up or get lucky and find some on ebay or craigslist.

Home Depot was selling that type of tiller.

Thanks Jimbo! Intersting information! May still be worth pursuing then. I just talked to the guy and he is going to email me a bunch of close up pics tomorrow so I can see what is there and what is not there.

Didn't know these could be outfitted with a tiller - cool. I was advised against getting the blade for the front by the dealer though. At least they didn't sell me something that wouldn't work well - kudos to them.
No idea why your dealer would tell you that, the 48" Blade with Hydralic Lift works well. You just need an angle kit if you plan on moving the angle of the blade from the seat.

Your dealer is weird. :fing20:

I have used my 48 blade on my 345 for YEARS and it is great! I also have a 42 snowthrower and its even better!

Fine another dealer.........

I was going to use the blade to maintain 1/4 of gravel road. For one, with it being 2WD - it would slip on the gravel before I was able to push very much. I bought one of those things from DR that you drag behind it that does well - until I get on some gravel, have to adjust how much work I do accordingly. I chalk a lot of it up to the turf tires, but it gets stuck/spins out real easy.

Yes, I agree, if you are pushing gravel sitting in loose gravel, I can see that being an issue. I would think that a 4WD unit bigger than a 345 would be needed for that. The DR drag may work if you keep it moving. Just a guess on that one......

yes the DR drag has a battery powered switch and you can lift the blade up and down to pull less/more gravel/sand/whichever per pass. It works really well - but would work better with 4WD or - maybe some bar tires and weights instead of turf tires. But yeah - one of these years I'm getting a bigger tractor. A diesel something or nother. Have another five acres I don't mow, but the horses pasture in it. Needs to be bush hogged every now and then.
