Help choosing between GT48XLSi and GT52XLSi...

I have it narrowed down to these two. I have 1.7 acres of land to cut and a Cyclone Rake to haul. I was planning on getting the 48" because I can get it for $2,999 which seems like a great price. However, my wife said, "Do you want bigger in case we get a bigger lawn in the future?" Well, I hadn't really thought of that.....The 52" is $3,499.

My question is, should I get the 52" just "in case"? Are there any benefits/disadvantages to the larger deck? It's $500 more but if it makes a big difference and there's no downside then maybe I'll consider it.

Thanks!

Another related question: if I get the 48 is it possible to swap the deck later for the 52?
Is there anywhere the 52" won't fit or will be awkward on your property?
....said the guy with 500 trees on about 1/4 acre of mowed grass with a 60" deck on a SCUT.... Believe me, I know awkward.
I bought the gt48xlsi a couple months ago. I have about an acre of grass and dont have many obstacles to mow around. I regret not getting the 52. However $2999 is a great price. I think i paid $3400. I do like the tractor overall just wish i got the bigger deck. Good luck.

I can't think of anywhere it won't go. I have 70" of clearance into my shed so that's not an issue and at least that much between all the trees.
Then go with the 52. I don't think you're as likely to regret it as you would be if you got the 48".
I don't know many people that think "I wish I got the smaller one."

Cool. Thanks. I just had it in my mind that I should check to see if there are any disadvantages to have the bigger deck (other than being able to fit places). I guess it's like TVs - get the biggest you can get!

On the other hand, I have the 52" and I have to say, the cut quality is not the greatest. I wonder if the 48" performs any better. Don't get me wrong, the 52" is fine, but it is rather intolerant of wet grass or dull blades. I have been ENORMOUSLY impressed in the ruggedness and durability of the 52". I have literally beat the bejesus out of this thing over rocks, roots, stumps and anything else it can drive over, and yet I can't seem to break or bend anything. So, although the cut ain't the prettiest, it will literally mow anything you can run over.

The GT52XLS has 23" tires and the ground engaging-rated tranny. The GT48XLSi has 20" tires. For just mowing flat lawn areas I do not think it will matter. For anything lese (grading, pulling a loaded garden trailer, etc.) it likely will matter.
Thanks. I got the 52XLSi. So far I like it.

Hey boss, the GT48XLSi has 23" tires too. There is a lot of mixed information out there on these tractors but I assure they have 23" tires.

Very possible, Sergeant. I do not remember where I got that. COuld have mixed up models. The specs on the Husqvarna website are generally just terrible- like it indicated that the GT52XLS was not a "step through" model.

Could not agree more about Husqvarna site. That is one of the reason I joined this great forum. Much better info on here! Husqvarna should sponsor this site. Coming here, I was able to find the info I needed to make my purchase a few weeks ago... :trink39:

given the 52 is only 4 inches more, it would take you 12 runs before you would have an extra run 48/4 = 12.

If you have an even yard, then the 52 is fine, but if you have an uneven lawn, then you may notice an uneven cut.

I would go with which ever as the fabricated deck. stay away from the stamped decks.
