My G14 didn't come with any headlights nor the hardware to hold them to the hood. Can someone trace one out for me so I can cut a couple out of sheet metal and send it to my email? PM me and I'll give you my email. I would like to be ablt to put headlights on this tractor by winter time because it has taken the place of my former plow tractor. Thanks

If the studs are there, all you need are the rings and some nuts. The rings show up on eBay all the time. The ones from any tube frame will fit.
I picked up a spare set on eBay for $4.99 plus $2.50 shipping. It would take a whole lot more than $7.49 of my time to make them.

Thanks steevo but I tried the ones from my g10 and they won't work. My g14 has some sort of bracket welded to the hood and the hold down rings for the headlights must have tabs in them or something because there is three slots. I already have the sheet metal and access to a plasma cutter and don't have any funds at the moment so building them would be easier for me.

Lol don't blame ya there. Another member already sent me a picture of one but it doesn't look like the one I need. It's the same as the ones on my G10, just a round piece of metal which I am going to try again. If yours are the same then no need to worry about it. If yours has little tabs that slide into slots then it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ventured outside to water a bit and took a look. Mine are a round flat disk of metal with notches on each side for the tabs on the headlight to fit in. The disk is held on by 3 long plain unstaked rivets, The rivets have a clip pushed over them to secure the disk down tight against the headlight. One rivet is missing and has been replaced by a plain machine screw and nut. It looks like:

Interesting. My bad, I thought I had seen the inside of a G14 hood before and that it was the same as the rest. I learn something new every day.

Lol. Not your fault. Maybe someone has altered my hood and put in a different system. If that's the case they did a heck of a job because it looks factory. Maybe those rings will fit and I was seeing it as something else. I'm going to try the ring again unless someone else has the same style set up and can hook me up with a picture and some dimmensions. I'll try to get out there tomorrow and try the ring and take some pictures of what is going on under the hood if they don't work.

BearNPum: Mine don't look a thing like that. I guess I'll get some pictures of what I got and see if anyone has seen or has this setup....thanks for taking the pics....as I thought just by seeing what you have there the rings aren't going to work at all.

If you ever have to change those lights you will see why one pin was changed to a machine screw. Those little clips break very easily.

Here's the pictures of the set up that my hood has for the headlights. The first and second picture are just showing what I have and the third picture shows a headlight with a ring on it. If you look closely you can see that the tabs are holding the mounting ring up so it's not touch the headlight. Anyone seen something like this on another bolens? Those brackets are welded to the hood and it really does look factory. There's no warping of the hood or the brackets.

I do not think those are a factory installation. I think a previous owner had access to a spot welder and put those brackets on your hood. In the picture with the light in it, the light looks as if it can not touch the hood as it should.
Compare that hood to your G10 with a light installed. The light should fill the hole with out any gap around it.

There's no gap around the headlight when you look at the front of the tractor but the healight doesn't "bubble" out as much as the other bolens tractors. I guess I'm either going to fabricate something for this or find where they are spot welded and grind out the welds so I can use the actual mounting rings for this tractor. Maybe I'll get lucky and he didn't actually weld them on just two part apoxied them on. I have to repaint the hood anyways so I'll investigate further in a few days. Thanks for the help.

I'm trying to remember where I have seen a setup like this in the past? But as I recall, all it had was a wire (or two) and springs.

I think you could do this: Fashion a piece of stiff wire that goes between the 2 larger closed tabs. Make it like the drawing below, then find 2 springs to go from this wire over to the other side and slide onto the smaller open tabs. Just an idea ...

Look at this HT20 manual - http://sonnys_bolens.tripod.com/manuals/images/largeframe/2087.pdf , page 23 - That looks like your headlight bucket. Interesting, that part number is the same number as the G-14 part, but the G-14 manual doesn't show those tabs you have.

That will work. I have a few smal springs kicking around and I have plenty of mechanic's wire and clothes hangers. May be a little crude but that will be easier than trying to remove the existing brackets and taking a chance of grinding a hole though my hood. Thanks for the idea. I've seen on some foglights a little piece of spring wire holding the bulb in the lense and I was trying to figure something like that out as well but your idea looks like it would work a little better.

Ahhh ok so I have a g14 with an h14 hood. That's exactly what I was trying to come up with. Except my hood has holes for screws whereas I see yours does not.....this is interesting.

Thats how thay were you got the right hood. wy the holes are in it i dont know.

maybe the PO had built new retainers because he lost the springs....who knows but atleast now I don't have to grind on my hood. Thanks every one for your input and help.

I think that those kind of headlight mounts used a bent wire spring that is in kind of a "W" shape. The bottom points of the "W" go in the two slotted mounts, and the top ends of the "W" hook under the ones that are open sided.
