:trink40:I found a 720 special,a little rough around the edges, but I think its worth saving, It is missing the steering box,and a few shrouds for the dash, Does anyone know if an automotive steering box could be easily adaptable?,or if I should take this opportunity to put power steering on it? The tractor came with a front blade ,60" mower, and a 48" tiller. here's some pics.

VERY nice! Those are the 3 attachments I'd want to have, too. Not sure on the steering, though parts are frequently available on ebay. The power steering jobs I've seen use Sunstar components.
The power steering would be nice indeed. If you go manual I'm told that a Chevy Vega steering box (Hollander Salvage Yard interchange No. 1022) was used in those tractors.
Those tractors steer so easy especially with those tri-ribs on the front I wouldn't bother with the PS unless you're going to put a loader on it.
I wonder if they made different models for export to Canada. The U.S. 720 models had a different hood. Yours has the Simplicity style hood from a 9020. Never heard of a "special" either. Either way it looks to be quite the beast and you got some nice attachments too.

:thanku: for the info and all the kind words,I have not had any luck finding the serial # plate yet,any ideas where it could be located? I kind of think it was originally badged Simplicity because this is what I found under all the barn dust on the dash panel. Heres a few more pics.

engine runs very well,no smoke, very smooth, but will need to be demoused ( started it up and watched the mouse nest fly out of engine shroud)

Drive line is removed to access steering box so I could not test trans. or hydraulics.

Very nice find! :fing32:
Thanks for the kind replies, does anyone know where the ID tag should be located. I phoned a couple local auto wreckers, but had no luck tracking down a steering box yet, I might have to bite the bullet and upgrade to power steering with doner parts from a green tractor(jd 455):thanku:
nice find, i talked to a guy the other day that took the powersteering off a sunstar and put it on a powermax it might bolt right up but cant say for sure.

Tag should be located on the right side of the frame a few inches in front of the transmission fluid filter. Looks like yours is missing.

Man, that is a coold find. I wold love to have a GT that big, no need for it, but would be really cool.
With a little tlc spit, blood, and grease. That could be a fine machine.
Every thing looks original on it so I am kind of baffled by the allis orange on a simplicity hood with allis chalmers decals, and simplicity sticker on the instament panel. I know that allis and simplicity are one and the same ,but I have never seen another tractor with a mix of sheetmetal and decals from each,it would sure help if I could find the id tag but I think it is M.I.A. I have not had a chance to look at it again since I brought it home ( I get up at 4:30 am to go to work and do not get home till after 6:30 pm) maybe on my days off I can do more diggin to find out more about this tractor

:thanku: to all for the great info and comments:thThumbsU
contact the PO if possible, see if they know. I tend to keep that info on hand.
What IS this tractor? I just happened to be passing by, and saw 720 "Special". I had to click on, and find this! It looks like a great tractor. I would imagine that what appears to be a longer wheelbase (than other tractors) would be benificial to plowing/tilling.

I've seen some pics of the Simplictiy 4040. It looks like this tractor shares in it's DNA.

Very neat looking tractor. Best of luck with it.
