Somebody with a marginal sense of humor threw some fertilizer there. Watch out that Walmart doesn't get you for trademark violations!

Kids may have stomped it out in the snow and then the frost and the melt affected the area.

there is exess nitrogen in that spot causing a ring of grass to get greener and grow faster than the rest of it

My vote is a practical joke involving a bit of fertilizer.

Put in a new lawn out front, but it was coming in kinda pale. Didn't think it needed more fertilizer given that it was planted with a good layer of compost and then starter fertilizer when the seeds started to take. This was my test spot to see if more fert would help or if it would scorch the new grass. Maybe next year, I'll draw an MTF logo. :fing32:

I can see a new craze started. Just like the kids that wipe "WASH ME" on a dirty car, people will be writing "FEED ME" on pathetic lawns!

I once had a neighbor use a drop spreader like one might use a broadcast model. You could retrace the exact route he took.

it does look like a practical joke someone added a lil extra nitrogen in the shape of a smiley . I thought maybe he bought walmart fertilizer and that was what it did . I did hear walmart is trying to cut costs maybe they figured they could get you to pay for them to advertise by using your lawn and their fertilizer saying something like walmart brand lawn products make lawns happy heres proof lol

Maybe you could get a drop spreader, a GPS, and a graphics program to map out some funky art like some of those huge corn mazes.
