I'm the proud owner of a John Deere 285 garden tractor with 48" deck setup for mulching I found on CL for $450. The mower seems to be in good shape - starts easily and runs well but will not idle down without stalling. Transmission seems fine. I don't believe it has had much maintenance for some time. The PO parked it when the M136635 idler arm broke. I sourced a replacement on eBay today and ordered four bushings elsewhere. I'd like to do any necessary maintenance, then work on the deck and get it going before mowing season ends. The deck has the mulching kit installed and I'm considering removing it, though I have none of the parts that would have been included before the kit was installed. I would appreciate any suggestions on what I should do to make it run another 20yrs. Thanks
