I picked up a DGT6000 today and at first it appeared to have a lot of play in the steering. When I got looking closer, it looks like almost all of the play is in the front axle pivot. It actually moves so far that the front axle has wear on it from going back and forth hitting the frame.

Has any one ever ran across excessive play in that spot rather than in the steering gears?

All Craftsman tractors have play in many of the front axle and steering components that when combined result in sloppy steering. I've worked at shimming out some of them to reduce the slop.
