GT2544 brake pedal problems

4054 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  heygreene
Hi Folks,Tonight while out trying to get in a bit of lawn cutting before dark, I suddenly found my brake pedal was flopping loose. I had just used the parking brake to put the tractor on ramps for access to cleaning the underside of the deck and when I backed down, the pedal was flopping loose. It was too dark by this time to do anything for now, but I reached under and it seems the pedal return spring is just flopping around. I could not tell whether it broke or just came out of its position.

Anyone else have this problem? I will have to get under there and remove the deck completely to check it out further.

Thanks

No, I have not and I can't remember anyone else either. How old is your tractor?
I think that there is a bushing that holds the brake pedal in place somewhat. It can work itself loose and cause the pedal to have a lot of "floppy slop".
That's the first I've heard of this one, although I once found the whole cradle assembly that holds the pedal linkages to the frame, holding on by a thread or two. For all 4 bolts :Stop:.

2007 with 198 hours on it.
what I'm talking about, if you look under the frame, you'll see the hole where the pedal comes out of. There is a plastic bushing that is "supposed" to take the extra play of the hole being drilled too big, however that plastic bushing tends to fall out if you use reverse a lot. Do you think that's where yours is coming from?
Awhile back one of my pedals (can't remember which one) got very sloppy and and I had no idea what the problem was. Checked under the mower and found that apparently a branch or something similiar to that pulled one of the clips out of its hole and the washer fell off somewhere in the yard with the hairpin clip allowing the bracket to work loose and fall off of its mount but thank goodness I had a few extras around to get it going.

I guess it will have to wait for the week-end to get another look at things. All this wet weather and late days at work are cutting into my "fun" time!

Seems like this is a rare occurrence to have problems with the brake pedals?
Problem solved!

Seems the tension spring that connects to the brake actuator at the rear of the tractor had popped out of the hole. This let the torsion spring flop around up near the pedal. I had to drop the deck off to access this, but it went back together and everything seems to work fine again. I got a bit of seat time in before dark.

Now, if the rain ever lets up, I might even get some more of the yard done!

Well, the search feature never seems to return anything for me... but it did this time. Same make, same model and same issue. I've been having a lot of trouble disengaging the parking brake on my GT2544. I mean I jump up and down on it, push and pull on the black plastic lever, etc. I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to be doing with the black plastic with the P on it... I'm assuming pushing it down... tried pulling on it, moving it to the right then pulling, pushing, etc while pushing down the brake to no avail.

Anyway, tonight I was in the same boat... couldn't get it to "unlatch" and once it did, I noticed I have no pedal at all now. Now, I can't set the parking brake, and the only way to get it to stop rolling on a hill is to actually cut it off (not sure why this stops it... but i don't know much about these). I don't think I'm nearly as experienced as you are, but I will take a look at it this weekend and see if I can find the tension spring for the actuator. I've never even removed the deck before... wish me luck! :tango_face_surprise

And if anybody has any words of wisdom, please chime in. I'd really love to not pull this thing apart this weekend, if I can help it.

you really should repost this under your name, it might get more "eye" time from other members, once I saw that "Rattletrap 2" had fixed his problem, I ALMOST marked this thread as "solved"
just a tip.....

Thanks for the tip Ray2, I moved it here and referenced this old thread: http://www.mytractorforum.com/19-cu...ake-pedal-very-loose-gt2544.html#post11804122
