Hello All,
I'm brand new to the site. I posted my hello thread but I need some help so I hope its ok I'm posting already. I have my K71b trans out of my gt235 already. I saw a post about the forum likes pictures so I can do that. I have found Tuff Torque through the forum already which has been a great help. I have the transmission mostly broken down, but my question is what is the best way to removed the pump shaft? I am trying not to beat it with a hammer, but its getting to that point. Any suggestions?

Looks like a K71 in your machine, I looked at the pump shaft on the breakdown through the Tuff Torq diagrams but no idea how this would come out either :dunno:.

Before I would use a hammer on it, suggest you call Tuff Torq and ask a technician there. I have not had to call them, but saw some members here that had and they are really fine folks to deal with and offer help :).

Thanks Jim. I think thats exactly what I'll do. I have also found that I have metal shavings coming off number 63 on diagram. I am going to order a replacement part. Not sure how that could happen I will ask Tuff Torq when I call.
I have more questions while I wait for the tech at Tuff Torq to call me back. What is the best way to flush the tran?
Update: I spoke with Tuff Torq. There is a ring which is number 15 on the diagram that needs to be removed before the shaft can be removed. Also they recommended using gasoline to flush the tran out. Does that sound right? It sounds like I am going to have to replace the "motor." I described to them what the mower was doing and they said it sounds like the repair kits number 201 is what I need.

Yes gasoline is a good way to clean but hazardous to work with, I'll used mineral spirit oil (Varsol) instead me.
Pictures of the tran all broken down. Hopefully I can put it back together.

Wow. Big project. Thanks for the pics. Hopefully i never have to open mine up.
I was gun hoe about it and now I'm more nervous about getting it back together then anything. So much for a bullet proof transaxle.
Don't be afraid--you did a good job, looks like --pulling apart and cleaning..

(hopefully you took some pictures as you dis-assembled...):dunno:

How many hours did you have on your Deere before you decided to take your transmission apart?

I'm surprised your trans gave you problems. Pretty much the K71/2 and K92 transmission are bullet proof when the scheduled filter, and oil is changed according to the scheduled maintenance. (I think every 200 hours)

Well once its back together, believe me I plan to change it every 200 hours. I just bought it on Sunday. The guy told me it had transaxle issues and they had bought a new JD already. He sold it to me for 300 bucks. It doesn't have an hours meter and he didn't know how many hours were on it. I plan to change the engine oil, air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs before I'm all said and done.

Wife was not very happy with me when she got home. I took the two kids with me to pick it up so I had a long day. The wife walked in the door and my daughter yells "Dad bought a big tractor....."

Any suggestions on removing the pin on the swash plate and number 73 on the diagram? I beat with a hammer. Bent a bunch of nails, broke a finish nail punch and ony got it to move 1/8 of an inch. If I have to I will buy the whole setup, but the number 73 part is in fine condition.

That part is "kaput" :(

Is it the good diagram here?

Yes thats the one I've been working on. I'm not sure what each part is called so I've just been calling it by its number.
I'll bet you it ran of gas one day and someone towed it home behind a truck or ATV. That will wipe out even the heaviest duty L&G hydro.

That would make alot of sense Displaced because he did tell me he used it to mow his lawn and his mothers which was down the street. I'm still fighting this pin. I heated it up and got it to move a little last night. I'm going to get it out one way or another now.

I think the pin come with the part you need to replace, order what you need and see if you really have to remove the pin.
Ok I'm back guys. After talking to Tuff Torq a bunch of times over the past few days I'm looking at 700 dollars in parts all together. Right now I feel like I have two opinions. Try to track down a used tranaxle for somewhere around 400 bucks or just replace swash plate and not the motors in my transaxle. Tuff Torq says if there is any type of grove in the face then it will cause an issue. Mine is clean except one little spot. I am going to take a picture so you guys can see. what do you guys think I should do?
