Hey guys. I've just been browsing through this "section", or "area', or whatever it's called. Lots of interesting stuff here. But after reading @Mayor's post a few days ago, I thought that maybe we could start a new(er) thread with guys posting pictures of their garage/shop setups? I'd love to see how everybody has their shops and tool chests organized.

I've been buying a lot of new tools lately, but my tool chest is already pretty full. I could obviously either buy another one, or use the old pegboard, but I'm considering just using the Milwaukee Packout organizers, so that I can not only use them in my shop, but also throw them in the truck for easy transport. Not sure about that yet though.

I figure everybody can post pictures of their stuff here, and their reviews of that stuff as well. Do you have any tools that you've bought that you either found that you love or hate? If so, why? How do you have your tool drawers organized? Let's see!

I do need a new bench grinder, so I'd like input on what you guys use and like.

I just thought that most of us probably fall into the "tool junkie" category, so we'd all get a kick out of seeing how others have stored their stuff, and maybe get ideas from each other. I'm always reading posts in other threads about what one of you guys has improvised to work for you, and thought to myself "that's ingenious"! So, maybe we can see some stuff that you've come up with for your shops, and maybe help the rest of us in this area as well.

So, LET'S SEE YOUR SHOPS, TOOLS, AND TOOL STORAGE!!! I'm anxious to see everybody's pictures! Come on guys, "get your bragging on" LOL.......

We had a contractor here yesterday whose father owns a garage. He took one look at our tools, had nothing to do because of high wind outside and organized ever wrench, socket and pair of pliers we had in the shop.

These are NOT tools he even works with.

He said he had never been in a hydroelectric facility so I gave him the $1000 tour seeing as how he did all that organizing for us. As I said, he is a contractor employee and does not even work for us.
Wow! I’d love to see his garage… I can only imagine. Lol!

When I saw those initially the other day when you posted them, the first thing I thought was, "wow, I like those". But then I realized, that I really don't have anything to use them for, so just having them to have them would be kind of counterproductive for me. Instead of helping me organize, they'd end up being a catchall, that would probably be a detriment. At least for me, and my needs at the moment.

I just got a phone call from a number I didn't recognize. So SOP for me, I didn't answer it. Whoever it was left a message, so I went and listened to it about a half hour later.

It turns out that it was Harbor Freight's customer service. I don't remember, but apparently I must have messaged them or called them when I was waiting for that floor jack to come. I do remember that it got held up in Chicago for a few extra days because they had a storm there or something. But when I messaged them, I'm sure I wasn't complaining (because I'd have remembered that if I did), probably just checking on my order, trying to see when it would arrive?

In any event, the girl said that she just checked the tracking number for the order and that it was showing that it had been delivered. But that she was going to go ahead and reimburse me for my shipping costs anyway. Nice! So, the 22.00 for that I paid for shipping (I just went back to see what it was), was given back to me. I can't speak for their tools, but I'll definitely say something positive about their customer service. I was very pleased with that!

Edit: I was just going through my emails, and saw that they also sent me an email showing the credit. Nice work HF! :) I edited part of the address and phone number out so that I don't get spammed.

Last week, I finally got around to re-organizing some more and assembling that medium-duty Husky shelving unit I purchased on sale at Home Depot a few weeks back, to complement the heavy-duty unit purchased in September.

I first had to re-locate these plastic cabinets (possibly by Rubbermaid?), which I bought real cheap way back when (while we were still at the previous place.) They are nothing special, but have worked out well for storing/organizing lighter-weight stuff that is better off in an enclosed cabinet.

It’s hard (because my shop is packed full!) to get a good photo of all of them together lined up. I have three of them. The vertically split doors are nice in tight spaces because they have small swing radiuses.

Still taped to the door of one of them is a diagram I drew of the garage at our previous place, trying to figure out if there was a layout which would accommodate a Kubota BX1860 w/FEL:

I came “this” close to buying that little BX back in 2010, but never pulled the trigger. Probably for the better - - it would have been a tight fit in that tiny shed/garage.

Now I have a garage that is more than triple the size, but I still can’t fit my stuff!! 😂

Anyway, the cabinets got moved out from that back corner to make room for the new 48” wide 5-shelf unit. It went together fine. On balance, it is a good shelving unit. (However my feeling is that the larger heavy-duty Husky shelving unit is a better “value”. If you have the wall space, my preference/advice would be to add another one of the heavy duty units.)

The newest shelf unit:

And now I realize I neglected to take a final photo! I’ll try to get one, but I think you all get the idea.

Wow, you're really set up! You don't even have to put chains on anymore, just swap tires out in the Winter/Spring! That's a really good idea!

Those white cabinets look like a good place for paint/stain storage to me for some reason.

Yeah those chained-up turf tires are also fluid-filled. I thought I might need them again some day, but since switching to the Carlisle All-Trail HDAP tires on the 140, I have never had a problem with traction in snow. I really should sell those, especially now that I have a 4WD tractor as well.

And yes, one of those cabinets is the primary storage area for paints, epoxies, etc. Not the best organization, but at least it’s all in one place:

Still haven't located the flat-free tires that are probably buried in the garage somewhere...

...so I bought new ones and installed them on the hand truck!

Bunch of family stuff planned this weekend, so that might be the extent of progress for a bit, LOL...

Bought myself some shelves today. 2, 4' 5-shelf units that are metal frame with wood shelves for my interium parts room, 1 Unit for my detached garage, and 1 unit for my storage room. Got the parts room units together with quite a few 4-letter words. Before and after pics below.

Looking good!! I found that having the shelves built in a dedicated space really motivated me to dig into the piles and get organized. If I’m ever lucky enough to build another shop I want a dedicated room just for storage.

Got some goodies at HF today. I didn’t get the belt sander but am thinking about it. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Ooo… a nice little haul! I got the email, but haven’t looked at it yet. I like their 7mm gloves, I find I bust through the 5 too easily. Timely post about that belt sander.. I need one that size. I haven’t seen that one before.. might need to check it out tomorrow for that price. I have a big 6”x48” belt sander that I SWEAR I bought new belts that I’ve looked high and low for that haven’t shown themselves yet no matter how much a swear at them.

...those are 7 mil gloves, not 7 mm gloves. 1 mil is 0.001" (Nitrile Glove Thickness Chart).

For most stuff, using rubber gloves that are 7 mm (about 1/4") thick would be VERY annoying and difficult to use...

I get the HF emails as well. I some times buy the cheap socket sets for 15 to 20 dollars and give them away as gifts.

The belt was not tracking right in the store and it took quite a bit of adjusting to get it to finally track right. Could of been some customer up to shenanigans adjusting it so far out. Yeah I’ve been wanting a belt sander like that for a while. Not sure if it’d be any good for metal work though.

There is a ton of reviews going back to at least last year. I did not see a bad review.
