IMHO--UPS is head /shoulders ABOVE any other delivery service-way out in front. Bottom of the pile is FedEX home which is independent contractors and Amazon. Where do they find these people? (trying to be nice here)

My only issue with Fedex is that they drop a package and never ring the doorbell. UPS always rings the doorbell so I know they've been there if I'm in the house. Both drop at my door though.

I'd be okay with that. Most times when I've got deliveries coming, I set it up to get text or email alerts letting me know when the package has been dropped off. I'd just rather not have my packages left out in the elements when I've got a 40' long covered porch that would be easy enough to throw my packages on.

They used to set them up on the chair on my front porch as well but now seem to leave right in front of the door under the porch as well. Never had one left in the yard or sidewalk to be exposed to the elements.

Sort of amazed that your guys delivering in your very rural area aren't a little more customer courteous.
Don't get me wrong, MOST of them are very hospitable. It's just the FedEx drivers that don't seem to be that way. Our mail carrier leaves Hershey's kisses with a thank you note every time my wife or I plow around our mailbox on the road, after the town drivers bury it. And we plow A LOT, so she ends up leaving a lot of chocolate and thank you notes for us. Very nice of her. And as I said above, the UPS driver even leaves dog treats with his deliveries.

Some weeks we don't have garbage to put out for the garbage truck driver, because we burn anything that we're able to. On those weeks, the garbage guy will walk all the way down to the house, knock on the door, and ask if we have garbage, just making sure that we hadn't forgotten to put it out.

Most deliveries here end up on the front steps. Some, just in front of the garage (the front steps are probably 15-20 feet away from the driveway).

I think it's mostly FedEx that leaves stuff in the driveway, but not always, and I haven't really looked for that pattern before.

My UPS guy leaves stuff on the front porch, but never knocks, I just trip over the box when leaving the house. The Fed Ex guy used to leave the packages in front of my shed door, because the extra 50 feet was apparently too far. And there was a couple pf months when Fed Ex didn't deliver my stuff at all and I had to get replacement packages shipped. One small order from Walmart took 3 tries before I got it, but I think they either retrained that person, or canned his butt. Over my lifetime, I have had the best service from the Post Office. My wife is what used to be called a "mail order bride" as we met as pen pals in pre-internet days. I had actually developed a good solid friendship with the Postmaster who also became friends with my wife once she was here. Sadly he retired and his replacement is definitely not as good.

Bought some materials to help with mounting a cabinet, and spent a fruitless hour hunting for a pair of flat free tires for the hand truck, which is a critical tool for my reorganization process.

I swear I bought them a few years ago, but I couldn't find them in the garage or shed. They'll show up after I buy and install new ones...

I did come across a couple of things I've been looking for since the fall, LOL...

FedEx does not go the extra mile because they do not allow them too. They are allotted 2 minutes per stop. No matter if it is only 30 seconds extra for them, the time they shave off your stop will help negate the extra time dealing with a difficult delivery down the road.

They are non-union too and thus have no Union protection should they breach the 2 minute stop time.

What is the big deal about a Jack being out in the rain considering the oil, grease paint and whatnot it’s going to get? Maybe this is just me, but I sure wished my biggest complaint of the day was a package containing a big chunk of metal getting possibly wet. I got a lot bigger problems then that!

Not being able to find stuff when I need it is how I came to own 3 pop rivet guns :)

The issue is, that it's not always that piece of metal and grease. Sometimes it's clothes or something else that can be damaged sitting in the elements. And the issue is, it's just as easy to get to my porch as it is to put something in front of my shop. He parks the truck, he can go 30' to his right and throw it in the snow, or 30' to his left and put it on the porch, so it's not taking him any longer to do what he's doing. Read the other posts about the general consensus about FedEx vs. UPS on this thread. I'm not alone in my observation.

The FedEx delivery situation is far from my largest complaint/problem. It's just something that's aggravating.
