Gravely lower end: DIY or take it to a motorcycle shop?

1204 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Fla Don
I no longer have a lathe or mill or easy access to same. I was thinking that a motorcycle shop which does built-up-crank bike engines could do this work easily should they be inclined to do so. Anyone have experience having a lower end rebuilt by such a facility?

And before someone asks the logical question.....Went through the Big D, and I don't mean Dallas.

I would think so...have you priced the work at a Gravely dealer? There are two that I know of one in Spencer, WV and another one in Prestonsburg, KY I'm sure there are a few more still out there that I don't know about.

Any and all Gravely L engine machine work can be done by this shope, very fair prices and quick turn around.
We do not know what type of engine you are working on, or what you want to do.
Are you talking about redoing a crankshaft from a Kohler, Gravely or what?

Not certain what you meant by big D.

For old Gravely engines Todd White is in Oklahoma and he should be able to help you, http://gtgravelyparts.com/

Richard's can do the complete job no problem, http://www.gravelyparts.com/
and you can ship a bottom end to WV via UPS.

A good automotive machine shop would have the presses and maybe a truing stand for old Gravely engines, but you still need to purchase needed parts for them to install, such as rod bushings, maybe a crank pin or drive pin bushing.
