Does anyone know what font the Gravely logo is? Or is an original graphic?

There are stock fonts that are close but nothing truly matches. In other words it is a custom font.

I thought as much, I checked extensively on the font sites. The curve in the R doesn't match anything I've seen.
I think I have found something close. The font is either NCC1701A or Eurostar Black Extended or Green Mountain 3. While not perfect, it is quite close.
Being an old fashioned hand draftsman by original training, and knowing how long GRAVELY has used that logo/font, it would not surprise me for it to have been developed right on a drawing board in their design department - with no regard for printing industry standards, since that was long before computers.

Your comment about Gravely possibly developing their own pre-computer generated font (s) could very well be the case. It also reminded me of the trouble my printer had reproducing the 408's font, which is different again.

Since they couldn't scan it off of the hood, and couldn't find anything already generated, they had to develop it manually. From what they told me, it was a long (PITA) process, with lots of "re dos" before getting it to where it was in the pic.

If you look closely, there are still a few very minor differences.

The "R" is the bottleneck that prevents a good match with an existing font. It has a little forward facing tail on it's right leg.
Agreed but the decals from Ralph Geese do not have the tail and neither do anyone else's that I know of.

Below are some sample fonts. Click on the image for a larger view.

I think Green Mountain (a free font) is the closest so far.

You can download a free vector file of the logo here:

FYI, vector files can be rescaled with no loss of fidelity so with image-editing software you can make the logo or the individual letters as big as you want.

It not only has a forward facing tail, that same leg on the R turns in a little on the other side of the leg.

This is all interesting. Before I found MTF. in refurbishing my sister's 8122 I cut stencils for each letter out in good grade masking tape and painted the logos on. Real fussy to get perfect, but I was going for a 20/20 rule result.20/20 rule =looks good at 20 feet/20MPH. I eventually did the same process to put Gravely on the hood. The blue lines on the hood were easier.

A thread like this would have been real helpful

Hey here's a bumper sticker I made with that vector logo - work is slow today. It is that mustang orange color and the Canvas White Rustoleum color that some say matches the off white.

Yes, it looks like Gravely's "Mustang Red" (red/orange, aka. Ford Mustang "Flower Power" red) and "Alaska White" (Rustoleum Canvas White)
Think I'll get a few made up. Stick 'em on my car, kids, whatever.
The "E" needs to be wider on the later logos. The numbers are fairly tough to get right, too. When I got my 816 decals I had Ralph at rggraphix redo the lettering on his standard decals to better match factory.

Here's another bumper sticker I just made during this really boring conference call.

[/IMG]My 8183 got painted with stencils also. Homemade stencils. Notice no numbers. I didn't do them on the 8122 either. The numbers are verry difficult I found. Someday. . . . . . . .

I was able to save the original decal on my 816. It was still on tight. I washed it carefully then painted around it.

Well so do I so I ordered a couple printed up online. We'll see how they look. I have seen some comments that they may not hold up too well to the elements. I even ordered a coffee mug with that design on it!
Here are some numbers in NCC1701A font. The "1" needs to be trimmed, but that isn't a big deal.
