Gravely D Piston Ring End Gap

539 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Harddisk25
Hi, I'm currently restoring a 1959 Gravely D. I'm at the stage now where i will need to buy new piston rings soon, what would be the recommended end gap on all three rings? So i can work out the current overall wear for the new rings.

Thanks
Chris

Model D production ceased long before 59. Maybe your tractor is a Model L. New pistons and rings are still available from GT Gravely Parts and Richards.

This is a English Gravely D made in Devon, England. Based on the original American model with some improvements.
You could check gravelymanuals.com. There are a couple of English D model manuals there, but a quick glance through one didn't reveal anything like ring gap specs.

It does specify the bore, so you can mic what you have. . .

IIRC Fla_Don knows a lot about these machines. Maybe he'll happen along here with more information.
