Gravely 432 / york rake

I am looking to purchase a Gravely 432 to pull a 60" york rake and other pulling duties where more power and traction is required than can be provided by a L or C8. The rake manual recommends a 12-15HP tractor. The Gravely 432 has a 13 or 14HP Kohler. I am currently using the rake with my church's JD GT245 with a 20HP Kawasaki and that works OK. (Would be better if I mounted the weights.) Is the Gravely 432 capable of this application? Does the drawbar have a height adjustment? The 432 has turf tires and chains. I may change to ag tires with weights or filled tires or all of the preceding to maximize traction. This will be my first Gravely rider.

Paul, others may have considerably more insite into your application but I will offer a few thoughts.

I don't think a liftable rear hitch was ever offered for the 400 series tractors, so no, the rear hitch is likely not adjustable.

800, 8000 and G series riders did have liftable rear hitches as an option, but I'm not even sure that would work in your application.

I am assuming your rake is not a 3 point hitch? The standard hitch on a 800 or newer tractor is easily reversed to offer two different heights. Beyond that you would need to see if a liftable hitch would work or make something yourself.

From a traction/power standpint I'm sure a good running 432 would be just fine, as would almost any GRAVELY rider.

I assume you have a line on a 432? A newer, 8000 series or G long frame tractor may be a little more effective? And are easier to find parts and attachments for.

Hopefully some others can offer you more info.

The 432 weighs 900 pounds versus the 600 pound JD.

The gear drive 432 will put more power to the ground than a hydro 245 JD

If the JD will do what you want, the Gravely similarly equipped will shine, no special tires needed (or extra weight).

I can not answer the hitch question. :dunno:

I do my blade work with a 10HP Cub Cadet, it will push the blade far better than a 18HP hydro-static drive.

No, the drawbar isn't adjustable on a 432 unless it came with the optional liftable rear hitch. Those are pretty uncommon unless you have a 450, in which case the liftable hitch was standard equipment.
As to the Kohler 14 horse. They have plenty of power to pull the York rake.
Having just rebuilding the trans on a 432 you’ll be hard pressed to find one that’s more stout.
What Cadplans (non green lover) stated. "Sorry just a little dig". A good 10 horse would do the job.
I’d like to hook it to the back on my 140 and drag it around.

Just to clarify, I am not a non-Greene lover, rather a gear drive lover for ground engaging.

The Cub Cadet is perfect for my applications, Gravely would be used if there were an availability of that brand near where I live.

Gotta run what you can brung! :bananapow

I like anything that will get the job done. Got an IH Cub Cadet 149 with a number 2 tiller that works great. Have an 812 with tiller that works great too its just that if I hang the Cub its the belt that takes the abuse not the internal pto. But of course there are no rocks here in Middle Tennessee to hang or anything........
