Hi, I recently traded in a 1995 Wheelhorse 13-38HXL on a new Toro LX468. I could mow on my old tractor without hardly getting a blade of grass on my lower legs. But on this new mower, my lower legs are covered in grass by the time I'm done. The grass seems to be blowing up from underneath the deck. I mow at exactly the same height (3 inches). Has anybody else experienced this issue when changing tractors, and could you do anything about it (other than wearing pants instead of shorts - LOL)?

Maybe the issue is the larger engine (23 hp Kohler Courage instead of 13 hp Briggs). I wasn't sure if any type of deflectors exist for this issue.

Thanks!
Gary

I had a new Huskee several years ago that cut bad and blew grass out. The blades were designed badly or the deck was. Solved my problem with aftermarket blades without the odd mulching curl to them, just straight with the angled up tips.
Mowed 100% better.

Your new Toro LX468 is a lawn tractor that is built by MTD for Toro. Shame on Toro`s bean counter Did your dealer tell who made the tractor? The dealer I do business with refuses to sell any of those tractor. But this is besides the point, you need help, Toro use to make blow out shields.

If your mower has the wave mulching blades try exchanging them for another set maybe there`s a set of regular blades or a set of Gator blades made for your tractor. List the blade part number that your manual calls for and someone can look that number up for you. I just took a quick look under Toro and found nothing for a 46" deck, I took a look at Cub Cadet and I`m not sure of what blade you need, do you use 3 blades or 2 blades? Seems the mounting holes are star shaped or another style used.

His Toro deck should be the same as my MTD/Bolens.I have yet to find a set of Gator blades for it.All I can find is those crappy wavy blades.I go through at least one set a year. This year I been through two sets. The edges of my blades get thin and split. When that happens I have grass flying every where.I have no debris in my yards to tare up blades,no sand or dirt either.

New set,old set,and first set of the year. The really rusty set has 10 cuts and the freshly worn blades have 6 cuts.

They will but I can't find any to fit my application.I may try those knock offs that Lowe's sells.I think they are made by Arnold.
I don't know if the knock-offs are as hard as the fusion technology that Oregon uses on their Gator blades. There's more to it than just the wing tips.
