Grading the front drive today

2454 Views 20 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  GT_80
No work today, on account of it raining all day yesterday. So, I decided to take advantage of the soft ground. I used 2 blocks to cut into the gravel, then took them off to smooth everything out. I have chains, but only got as far as thinking about putting them on. Wheel weights will go on my Christmas list.

Hugh DID have fun grading yesterday :trink40:
Yes it does. I like the 6-speeds better than the automatics. I can mow in reverse with this one. The automatic that I just rebuilt shuts down if I try to shift into reverse when the blades are running.

i like a shifter too, kinda like cruise control, just lock it in, let out the clutch and go. nice set ups you have, both for mowing and yardwork :)
I could mow in reverse with my 2007 DYT 4500. If I remember right, the key had to be turned back one notch after being turned back from the start to run position. Took me a few times killing it before I figured it out. Should be in the manual if yours does the same.

when i want to mow backwards with my ss16 or ss15, i engage the deck, and shift into reverse and let off the clutch :trink39:

Thanks for the tip Randy_Linex. I just looked it up in the manual. There is a way to mow in reverse in ROS mode (Reverse Operation System). I'm still getting used to driving an automatic mower. I like the sound of the Kohler when it fires up. It sounds tough.

Nice work on the drive way.
Good looking tractor :fing32:
how easy is the sleeve hitch to use? my dad has the Husqvarna version of that tractor, and wants a 3 point, but maybe a sleeve hitch will suit him.

Looking at the landscape I think we may be somewhat close. I was doing the same thing yesterday,, Took the day off to work on my "Canal". During the rainy season ( Oct thru May ) Once it rains a few good times my back lot gets flooded all the way across see pic below.

Here is the lot flooded ( extreme after a heavy rain last year )

Water Water resources Land lot Natural environment Bank

I want to dig a canal all the way across,, about 6 to 8' wide and 18 to 24 inches deep,, NOT to stop the flooding,, but to try to contain it to a narrower stream,, I will use the dirt dug out to build a dirt "bridge" from one side to the other to allow me to cross and mow the back lot..

work in progress, working through some hardpan here, but making better progress in the back ground

work like that, even though your trying to fix a problem, is still fun :)

I used the mid mount grader I had then (now I don't have it- traded for stuff I needed more)

Now I would use my rear grader or my dozer blade

Isn't the trick in life to spend it all before you die? I'll be damned if I'm going to leave anything behind. Not for the government or the doctors.
