Hey guys, I got those two "V-engined" Toro's. They are both model 20442's. They are a little wore, but still in good condition. So far, I got one running. I had to put a Lawn-Boy primer bulb setup on it for now, as the orignal primer bulb was cracked and wore. Also, the recoil rope was short, so I put a handle on that anyways. I put some Lawn-Boy Generation 2 32:1 gas/oil mix in the tank, primed it a little, it fired, but stalled out. I continued priming it and trying to keep it running by using different positions on the throttle (slow/fast/choke.) After a bunch of primes and some pulls of the rope, I had it running and smoking! I ran it for a bit, and mowed with it a bit and I am quite impressed! As for the self-propel, it works great and I like the one speed transmission. When warm, it will start on one pull! And I said I hated V's! I got it to run, now all I have to do is keep it running correctly, but for now it is great! (Knock on wood!) As for the other, it needs a new bail cable. Eventually, I will need two new primer bulbs, two new recoil ropes, and another bail cable. And, both might need a carb cleaning as well as a port/muffler cleaning soon. Here are some pics for you guys.

Ok, just to show you how this works. The first picture shows how to start it. That lever there must be up when starting, as well as the bail being held up. Then, as shown in the second picture, that lever must be down, with the bail being held up to engage the self-propel once running.

Oh boy.....:ROF They seem like good machines. Better than I thought for that matter.....:hide:
My 10304 is mint...and its 13 years old. Keep it tuned, clean and USE LOCKTITE on the motor mount bolts. My neighbor has a 10314 and I was listening to him mow today. Thought....hmmm..that sounds kinda loud and funny. He 's lots a mount bolt and one was REALLY loose. Seems the head has separated slighty from the exhuast gasket and it sounds really wierd.

The muffler bolts on one of my V-engined Toro's seem loose.....

Those things do love to rattle their bolts out. I worked on a couple of the V engine Lawn Boy's last week that had the same problems. Motor mounts and head bolts were loose.

Use lots of red Loc-Tite when you put them back together.
