Got the Plow / Dozer Blade ready

2457 Views 14 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Glenn Ayers
Hi all, well the grass cutting is done for the yr here in MN so I removed the decks cleaned and greased them and put them in storage for the winter. Got busy on the snowplow / dozer blade for the PK, cleaned it up painted it and tried installing it went good had to fabricated a lift rod needed new blade trip springs replaced all the worn pivot bolts etc. Gave it a try and I am impressed with how it works as a dozer it really moved gravel. So today I fabricated a blade angling assy so I don't have to get off the tractor to angle the blade I do have to have it lifted and it requires 2 hands but I can do it from the tractor seat.

Looks great!

I noticed my hydraulics are set up different. I think my cylinder is setup under the frame for some reason. Almost all the other pics I've seen have it setup similar to yours. Looks WAY more useful.

At any rate, looks like you are ready for the snow!
Hi amccune, yes your tractor has the later hyd set up with the hitch cylinder located under the frame, that's the way my 84 1618 is, to me it doesn't make much difference some like the newer set up better, if you get on the tractor from the RH side then the lift rod an assemble kind of crowd things but I always get on or off on the left side.

Very timely thread! I just picked up a nearly complete plow setup for mine today. If you don't mind, can you snap a couple close up pictures of how it mounts to the tractor frame? The plow I bought is from a long nose and I have a late short nose. It looks like your frame has a couple hooks on it that accepts the rear most pivot? I assume they are welded to the frame?
Thanks.

Hi I leak oil, is your tractor a Power King or a Jim Dandy? The Power kinks have the hitch blocks welded to the frame and the Jim Dandy's have it bolted to the tractor, tomorrow I'll take a couple of pics of the hitch I have a JD unit I can take pics of I'll add a couple pics now maybe you can see it in the pics.

Hi, then the tractor should have the hitch blocks welded to the frame, does it not?
Hi here's some pictures of the PK hitch assy. the one on the table is for a Jim Dandy but the actual hook up is the same.

The older "Short Hood" Power Kings didn't have the "Hooks" for attachments ... they (attachments) bolted to the frame. I believe PK or "Someone" made a retrofit kit to affix hooks to the older tractors.
I'm probably wrong ... but I think the first couple years of "Long Hoods" still used the Bolted attachments. Seem to remember like 74 or so they changed to the Hooks.

Here's mine. I assume, as Glenn said, I need the bolt on mount.

Hi cjet69, thanks how are you doing these days? Did you get the Sub going?
Hi cjet69, thanks how are you doing these days? Did you get the Sub going?
The sub is still waiting patiently. Been busy helping dad(86 yrs) plow and plant a couple acres of pasture. Mostly working on the big tractors and equipment.
Here's mine. I assume, as Glenn said, I need the bolt on mount.
The "Bell Crank" for lifting the blade is different on the older tractors too.
2 steel blocks with hanging down loops/holes that the bell crank shaft goes thru .... they slide into the steel boxes under the frame .. right behind the front axle. You need to find a factory drawing of the old style push blade mounts.

Jason .... go to Steve's Post .. here ... http://www.mytractorforum.com/7108194-post5.html

He posted a pdf file of the old style blade & mounts.
It's kind of hard to see ... maybe blow it up.
