Got a 2000 JD445 witha 40 loader today

I drove 4 hours today to pick up a 2000 JD 445 with a 40 loader on it. It has 500 hours on the clock and runs beautifully. It is a little rough cosmetically but I will do some magic on it and it will look like new. The owner bought it new in 2000 and used it around her farm and horses. It needs both side panels and a new seat. Surprise! It has a 54-inch deck with one broken spindle due to her hitting a big rock. Thank God it was only a 54 and not the iron wonder the 60-inch monster. We had to put the deck on my trailer after we got the tractor on and if it had been that heavy 60, it would have ruined my back. Pictures tomorrow.

You seem to have a nice low hour run going
Why no pics today?

It's pouring down rain right now so no pictures. One thing I did notice that was different from the 455 with a 40 on it is the speed at which this one moves. Up and down is almost too fast and will take a little getting used to. The curl seems to be normal. One bonus is that since it has always been under roof is that the instrument cluster not only works but is dust free! For some reason the tail lights are missing but there are no dents around the holes that would indicate an impact of some sort. The lady wanted $3750 but because of the cracked panels and bad seat I offered her $3500 which she took. It wasn't the best deal but I felt that it was an opportunity that doesn't come along very often.

Low hours and a loader, pretty good deal IMO.

I don't know what happened to my first reply with pics but here goes the second attempt. I said showing pictures to this group is like throwing chicken necks to gators! Here are the pictures.

Whew, for a minute I thought I was going to have to bring out the big guns to get pictures on this thread!! :sidelaugh Rudy, nice looking machine and loader!
That's awesome, congrats!
Not to hijack and i'm sure its been asked before but why on some of these loaders do they have those uprights? What is the significance of those?

Oh, and yes sweet looking rig. I'm dying to get a small loader... so much work I could be doing!

The uprights are for roll over protection. Since the tractors do not have ROPS a higher power said you will put some type of ROP on either the tractor or loader or you will not be able to sell them. The ones that do not have the ROPS are not roll over certified.

Now I will say on my 45 loader if I ever take it along with my tractor onto uneven ground, should it roll I am going to be in a world of hurt because the rear weight of the tractor is going to come crashing down on me. I am sure that small tube that goes between the "goal posts" as some call them does serve some purpose to keeping the uprights vertical in the event of a roll over, and also keeping things tied together under general usage.

I have seen one 45 loader for sale locally a few years ago where the guy cut the uprights off the loader. Not sure why other than they look ugly as sin, and I am sure he was always on flat ground so he didn't have to worry to much about a roll over.

When you get to my age you will not have to ask what that cross bar is for! It's grab handle so I can get out of the seat! Also, if another bar is added at the top of the two bars it makes a very good night time light bar that looks down over the loader instead of the regular lights trying to look through the loader. Here in GA a couple of **** tails might look good on them too.

Boy, some people just have all the luck. Nice machine Rudy. I just happen to be in Georgia the other day on business and thought I would stop by Rudy's home and look at all the Tractors he has. He wasn't home, so I took a picture of all his tractors in his backyard. I like the way he stacks his decks.
