I haven't been on in a while.. with the economy the way it is I was out of a job for a few months and well had to sell my cubs. Well long story short I found another job and well I came across a 1250.. I decided to buy it with the deck and plow, It has good tires and was just tuned up, new fluids, filters, spark plug and coil. I am not sure of the year I will know when I go get it tomorrow.. now I am going to drive it and make sure everything works but, Is there anything i should look out for? I just don't have much experience with hydrostatic drive cubs, Thanks. I will post pics tomorrow!

congrats. I don't know much about the older hydros, but my wife's grandfather has a 149. It's a hydro and that thing is a tank. He uses it as his "backyard" tractor, has a 48" deck, mows 1 acre and it's his main garden tractor, he plows over 2 acres with it along with pulling firewood regularly and pushing snow in the winter. He's never done a thing outside of regular service to it. So if it's been maintained that hydro should last forever. He's bought and wore out three more tractors since he got that one. It's a 1973 by the way.

I have a 1250 that is my yard utility tractor. Almost indestructable. Check the cooling fan for the hydro. It's on the aft part of the drive shaft. Take the fill plug out and check the level and color of the fluid.

I also have a 1200 , an Original and a 104. They will never wear out.

One thing more. The PTO belt for the deck drive is proprietary. It has a special profile and an off the shelf belt will not work. Keep an extra on hand. They are getting hard to find also.

Well I got it home today all the way from hobart IN ( I am near Chicago) and There was alot of recent work done to it 390.06$ to be exact. He had the stator replaced, regulator, all new belts, coil, all fluids, new fuel, air and, tranny oil filter and 4 brand new tires. The work order says all that is less than three months old. I have 5 manuals for it all original And It was delivered to his house on december 17 1983 so im guessing its an 83. Now the only problems is that The muffler is not the original, the lower mesh grill is missing to make room for the new muffler and one headlight is missing. Does anyone know where I can get an OEM muffler? I will post pics tomorrow because its pouring out right now..

Well they quite making 1250's in 1979, so I don't think it's a 1983. If you post the serial number, I can give you the month and year it was built. As far as the muffler, I think they are still available new from the dealer, but you're going to pay around $103 for it. You might check Patton Acres or e-bay. There are a few other websites too. You can check IHCCW and CC Specialist.

Your tractor would have been built in March of 1976. It should have been built on March 1st first actually. They started the month of March at serial number 578932. According to my book, your tractor would have 3/4" spindles (later ones had 1" spindles), the longer steering column( early columns were 1" shorter), and the manual relief valves on the hydro (later ones had auto relief valves).
