I am having trouble deciding on the following. I am looking at a new 2009 x500 with power bagger and HDAP tires, the dealer quoted me at $6200. My question is that I did a search for used 2008's and up came the following, a 2008 x540 with 48inch deck and 55 hours on it for 6000, and also a 2008 x520 with 60 hours on for 5400. What does everyone think about my choices. Are there any major differences from 2008 x540 and say a new x540? Im on a time limit ( I purchased a x320 and have about 8 days left to call them and tell them to come get it). The 320x is spinning up the hills and has troble going around the trees at my house. My only other option is to buy HDAP tires and put them on the 320, but its another 300. I paid 4800 after taxes for the 320x c power bagger 7 bushel. Please help me out!

There's not much difference between a 2008 and a 2009 in the 500 series. Frankly, putting HDAP tires on a 320 is not going to help that much if your 320 is currently spinning. The locking differential on the X540 is the way to go.

I bought my 2008 X540 new. The only reason I went new rather than a prior year X540, was the additional warranty on the '08s.

If you don't need hydraulic lift, power steering, or liquid-cooling, the X500 is a very nice unit. Between the '08 X540 and the '08 X520, I'd go with the X540.

I concur with Stash, don't put HDAPs on the x320. I upgraded to a new x500 (wanted the warranty and financing) with HDAPs and love it. The x500 also has a locking differential.

If you are thinking about dropping the $6200 on a new X500 then why not drop $200 less on the X540 and get all the added options on that machine. 55 hours is not much and can be easily racked up over a spring and summer cutting season, even less time depending on how frequently you use your machine. I love my X500 and it hasn't let me down yet, but why not trade a few hours and probably a year of warranty at $200 less for the additional options on the X540. I am not sure what JD is offering in terms of financing these days for new or used machines, but I am sure this will factor into your decision.

Whatever you decide remember :wwp:

Do you use a bagger with the 540? The only thing Im worried about is contacting the dealer that sold me the 320x, Ive made 3 payments totaling 1750. If I simply return the tractor, I wonder will they just credit the account with 1750 and then I can contact the other dealer?Thank goodness for the 30 day promise
