I have a 20HP Kohler Craftman GT Model 917.273023 and the gas tank is leaking. Appears to be leaking at the center seam in the middle of the tank. I replaced it about 5-6 years ago for the same reason. These gas tanks are plastic.
When I replaced it the last time I remember other people were seeing the same thing. Is this just a problem that I will need to deal with every 5-6 years? Any one else seeing this ? Anyone got a fix that works longer?

I've never had any problems with my GT18 or Craftsman II GT6000 (They both appear to be original tanks but who knows). Just looking at pictures on the internet they look very very similar. Any chance one of the older tanks will fit?

I took the seat and fenders off and removed the tank. Its leaking above the seam in front of the fill cap. So I ordered a tank, elbow and bushing. But its not instock ( ordered from supplier):praying:. My mower can't stay down for weeks.

So I got some JB Weld Water Weld, roughed up the damaged area, applied JB Weld and put it back together. And mowed the yard.

No Leaks (so far).

I am considering fiber glassing the outside of the tank and adjusting the top bracket to accept a modified tank. Or joining the Gas Tank of the Month Club.:sidelaugh
