My gas gauge glass and the gauge itself is broken on my 1993 MTD 840 so I need to replace it. It's like the gauge that's used on outboard motor gas cans and uses a float to read the level. Is this a standard type gauge that can be found for anything else or do I have to get it from MTD and pay their price.

I had the same problem with My 845 Gt, This is what I got to replace it with this gas cap
The gauge made for it is $45 each.

yeah, $45 is a bit steep. i think i would replace with a standard cap. i top off my tank every time i mow anyway. what would be cool is if there was a way to install a fuel sender and a installa gauge on the dash.
