"Gary's Place" Onan parts

DO NOT order ANYTHING from Gary's Place. I got a brass float along with a carb kit from him less than 2 weeks ago. I figured a float is a float so I got his ($20) to save a little money compared to the genuine Onan one (~$40). BAD idea. I've had the float in the tractor for less than half an hour of run time and one of the pontoons is full of gas.

I'd be happy with a replacement but i'm sure of all of his are CRAP. Doubt he'll refund me though. :1106:

First negative thing I have knowingly heard about them. Other people have recommended them to others. Hopefully he'll correct the problem and try to make you happy again.
There's 2-3 other members having trouble with his floats. Hopefully he will fix it.
Isn't this the float that came bent, in a too small box that was marked do not bend the float? :dunno:

I'd tear him a new anal orifice!
Most of the time they print on the outside of the box... Do not bend float...
I've never had an engine where you don't need to tweak the float to fit just right.
But most people don't know how to bend them with out damaging them.
You never bend them by touching the floaters. You need needle nose pliers and only bend the flat brass part using two pliers. If you bend it using the floaters you will put a hole or crack in them. I've had a few come that already had holes in them. The brass metal is so thin. But it needs to be.

I got a DD float from him and it's been fine. But, then I sent a tecumseh carb to him for rebuild and it came back with multiple problems including a leaking float, blocked low speed circuit, and improperly installed gaskets. To be fair I never gave him the chance to correct it. I just wrote it off and did the repairs myself. I'd still buy parts from him but wouldn't send a carb for rebuild there. Rick

I have ordered some stuff from him and no problems.
Have you contacted him yet to see about a replacement ?

Call him up and let him know about the bad float. If enough of us complain mabey he will refund us the cost.

I bought a replacement float and a DD15 rebuilt kid from him with no problems...just another data point.

It seems to me contacting Gary first to get his input before complaining on an open forum would be more appropriate. If he then refuses to correct the problem then certainly you should let others like me know via the forum.

He refused to replace my bad float.
He refused to replace my bad float.
Then he deserves the bad press he is getting.
I wouldn't have posted this if other people on this forum had not had problems too. That, and the fact that he seemed bothered when I ordered my parts makes me really angry.

I did call him today. I explained that I ordered the float (along with other parts) less than 2 weeks ago and had the float installed for less than an hour and now it's leaking. Then I asked what kind of warranty he had for faulty floats. He asked if I had bent it and i told him it came squished in a box with the floats bent together. I explained that I had to bend it back for obvious reasons.

By this time it had escalated into him getting angry with me like it was my fault. The he asked "Well what do you want me to do about it?" I said I want my money back. So i'm sending the float back and he's going to refund me for the float and shipping it back to him. I'm happy with the resolution, but his attitude towards customer service still sucks and now I have to wait for a new genuine Onan float.

Did anyone else's float come like this?

Yes

That is exactly how my cheapo float arrived. The problem really is the with the manufacturer (In china or whatever overseas country it is made and packaged in) Gary has bought the floats and is now selling them to unhappy customers. This is unfortunate, but that is the way it works in capitalism

Gary is sourcing the floats and they are less expensive than oem, but I think we can agree, at least with this item, that the cheap imitation float is simply not up to the task.

This was the treatment I got , except I got NO refund.

I agree, it's not completely his fault. But no one is making him sell them. He sells lots of other parts, Onan and other brands that work fine. If he's smart he'd stop selling these.

That's ridiculous. Maybe the only reason he's refunding me is because of all the complaints.
I think we should invite Gary to join the forum, and explain to us what's going on.

I have not had to buy anything yet for my SS18 (knock on wood), but one day I might have to. I'd like to know any vendors used regularly by members here, are willing to back up their products with service as well.

I wonder if he'd dare to come talk about this on an open forum?

i bought one from him with no issues- still running. it came in a plastic bag, in a bigger box, full of foam peanuts as i remember. i have bought from him and the other retailer on ebay (forget his name) and both are fine.

What's up Bub? I do believe you were a person who had metioned them to other people. Think about how much the Onan parts cost from places like Sears and some other places. Can everybody just get along?
