Fuel cap repair made easy

1986 Views 12 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Wfburton159
My dome glass was missing off the fuel cap/gauge and I hated to spend $20+ on a new one so I bought my daughter and .50 necklace from the Kmart toy machine and used the plastic dome with some hot glue to make another dome and it fit perfect. I just cut it with scissors, drilled a air vent hole, cleaned all the broken plastic out around the cap and hot glued it. Works pretty good to keep stuff out of the tank.

Looks like that will do the trick!
And the best part about it is that your daughter now loves your tractor too!
I hope I'm wrong, but I predict that the gas fumes/sunlight will cloud the plastic in short order.

From a fit/finish/ingenuity perspective however, great work!
Very inventive! :fing32: Keep us informed how well it lasts.:trink39:
Great Idea, so great I tried it,

That's a good point. That plastic is much thinner and I'm sure its a different blend than the original dome that was meant for that application. But then again, if it was better suited for the task, maybe it wouldn't have broken in the first place!

Looks good! I don't know how long it will last but if it goes for 2yrs before clouding up then I spend another .50 and 10 min time. Still better than $20+ for a new one when the fuel gauge works like it is.

Great thinking ! :thThumbsU
I did the same thing to mine. It lasted for about a week using the tractor every day while i was working on the yard. I used thick plastic too. It is still intact and vents and keeps dirt out, but you cant see through it anymore.
