I bought one at an auction today for 2 bucks. I havent been able to get it to run yet, it looks like it had been laying up in the barn loft for several years. Has good compression and will light you up if you hold the wire while pulling the rope. I believe the plug may be bad cause it wont bust starting fluid.

However, my question is, does anyone know when this thing was built?

By "hold the wire" do you mean putting pressure on the spark plug boot?

There(should be)'s a little metal piece in the boot, attached to the coil wire, that fits onto the top portion of the spark plug. I would make sure that's making good contact with the plug. Found out the hard way with my echo srm2501.

If it's just the connector not being a tight fit on the end of the spark plug, you can generally squeeze the connector a bit to make it a little smaller, to get it to fit tighter on the spark plug.
