Friggin' Snowblower Belt!

Ok. Deere 2554, and a 46" 2-stage Sears blower. The setup uses the idler plate that is seperate from the blower. Got the blower mounted, and driiled some holes, and mounted the subframe up. Lower (Pulley-to-blower) belt is aligned, and stays on fine. Upper belt (P.T.O-to-pully) belt KEEPS FLYING OFF! It's a 1/4 thick belt, to keep it deep in the pully (Problem?) Belt is NOT at a very steep angle, < (Top "Thing" of this shape is a steeper of an angle than it's at), so not real steep. Ideas? I'm currently NOT using an idler....too tight?

Blower to pully is stock belt. Pulley to PTO is a 1/4 wide 42" belt. Here are some pics. Thinking I need to raise the mule drive bracket thingy, so the belt is straight. In the last picture, the pully can be seen in the lower right, and upper left (Follow yellow wire) shows the clutch.

the pics sure don't show very much.. I have a Craftsman GT with a 46 inch blower on it.. the mule drive for it is 'true & level with the engine.. ya can't have it any other way.. also there is a tensioner on BOTH belts.. & they r the same size.. a lil 1/4 wide belt will not work.. both belts need to b a wrapped style belt too.. if not they will not take the stress.. that mule drive looks like u got it 'cobbled' on the mower.. get ur geometry correct.. then also get both tensioners right..

there should b a sears number on the blower.. (xxx.xxxxxx) post that.. I can get u a manual for the blower.. this will show u a lotta things.. belt tensions for one..

I have the tensioners and the manual. Like I said i'm just gonna move the bracket upwards. Heck this thing won't be on this tractor long, probably not even for the whole winter.

I was not aware of ANY belts made that are 1/4" wide other than some used on car air smog pumps or sewing machines...

I think he has a 3L or 3/8" belt, which is also too tiny to withstand the snowthrower's demands--usually anything like that using 3/8" belts has 2 or 3 in a gang ,rather than a single belt..

I would assume that there needs to be a topside idler installed to keep the belt in the sheave and tensioned properly..sometimes a belt too thin in width will tend to climb up and out of a sheave rather than slip on the bottom of it,especially if there is any misalignment..

The pictures dont show much ,unfortunately...
You need to shine a droplight on the items that your taking pictures of so we can get a better idea of whats going on..

After you solve the alignment/size problem, take a close look and feel the rusty belt-contacting surfaces of those pulleys. If they're pitted, scaling and rough, they will eat through belts, even the Kevlar ones.

Pullies are fine. Problem solved.
...Problem solved.
So you're just going to leave us in suspense???

OK, so it's got something to do with a shaft driven PTO and a welder?

Mike
Precisely.....said screw it with the belt and decided to put it on my Agway...
