http://portableapps.com/ Portable Apps is geared towards USB drive applications but they work just fine on your HDD.

One of my favorites is PDFTK Builder Portable, http://portableapps.com/apps/office/pdftk_builder_portable, it allows you to merge, split, watermark, etc. .pdf documents. Did I mention it's free?

http://download.cnet.com/windows/?tag=hdr;snav CNET's download site is filled with both free and not-so free software. Most of the software that requires a purchase has a try before you buy option. CNET also has a great search option if you're looking for something specific.

Thanks for the link to Portable Apps, I've never heard of that one before. It's downloading now! :)

No problem, I have a bunch of apps on a thumb drive, it's amazing how useful those things are.

Found this yesterday; for those running Windows 7 here's another batch, links to the programs are in the text below the picture.

http://www.tomshardware.com/picturestory/540-windows-7-free-download-application.html

I use GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) and Spybot - Search & Destroy here at the house, the GIMP interface has a lot going on, but it's pretty useful tool if you don't already have another photo editing tool. Spybot is a free antispyware tool that works really well.

BTW, I can't speak for the rest but GIMP and Spybot are not restricted to Win 7, they work great in everything from XP to 7.
