I was given this today, and while I am familiar with basic refurbing on GT's, I've never worked on a JD this old.

Does not have mower deck

Has a HH100 Tec in it, that was replaced new 5 years ago, but it has been sitting nearly that long, so other than carb clean up, I think it'll be ok.

Gas tank looks a little rusty inside.

Tires need replacing.

Hood needs some fiber glass repair.

Seat needs new cover.

Deck was rusted out, according to PO, so he tossed it:banghead3
I do however have the belt cover for it. Guess it might come in handy if I happen on a good deck.

Gear box seems ok, neutral worked and brake released, so rolled it onto my trailer.

Yea, I know, :wwp:

I'll get them tomorrow.

But I need a manual or even a parts diagram. I'm sure someone can point me to a good site where I can get a good full page view, that isn't in split format like on JD site.

EDIT: After doing a Google search, I found a 112 wiring diagram for my serial number range, so I have that.

Congrats on the new addition. Go to tractordata.com with the S/N to find the year. Manuals are not available electronically IIRC and if they are they're copyrighted by Deere.

If you want some pix of a 110 torn down (basically the same machine) you can scan through my FrankenDeere thread here: FrankenDeere

Thanks Herd, I'm trying to figure out the belts, and the brake lock I did figure out but, the manual lift handle is on the left, but another lever on the right is a puzzle at the moment. I have to rewire the wiring harness, its been cut up and patched so much I can't figure it out just yet. The key switch looks to be a mess of wires on the back, so not sure of the switch itself. Will try to get the wires straight, and put a battery in it. If the carb bowl looks ok, I'll give it a go on starting it, just on the off chance it'll fire. Never cared for the Tecs carbs, so it'll probably not be that easy.

Then it'll need to be stripped down and sanded and do some painting on it. By spring it'll be all pretty again.

Here is a few photo's, click on them to enlarge them.

I'm pretty sure that's not the original HH-100. You will have your hands full with that tractor. It appears to have seen better days.
But now the fun part begins.
Let me know if you need any parts.I have tons of stuff for your 112 and most of it I would like to get rid of.
What year is your 112? I have an NOS wiring harness .

Can't beat free. Should be able to get her running in no time. Pretty simple to work on and like's been said, a deck won't be a problem to find. I replaced a worn out 39 mower deck (3 blades) for a 38" replacement deck ( 2 blades) on a 110 like yours. They interchange with the 200 series stuff. 208 210 212 214 216. Lots of potential right there. Good luck.

Nice, a free 112, should be a fun tractor/project. I'd love to find something like that!

It's missing the gas tank straps (where the rubber bungee is holding the tank) and that Tecumseh doesn't look like a JD Tec motor - at least it doesn't look like mine or what's shown in the tech manual. Muffler's wrong as well, should line up with that hole in the side of the frame.

Tech manual (worth every penny) is available here in paper or CD form:
http://techpubs.deere.com/deere/Default.aspx

I bought one and I've used it extensively in getting my '69 112, bought non-running, up and tearing around my yard, mowing, using a box blade, etc.

I got parts for rebuilding my carb from www.mowers4u.com. Nice folks.

One thing if you have the LME-26 (stock) carb - do not take out the main jet on the bottom of the carb unless you find the reclusive replacement jet. It was drilled after being installed and if you remove it the jet will not line up correctly when re-installed. The tech manual does show how to grind the jet on a lathe so that it will fit correctly and can be re-installed. This is the really the seat that the jet screws into, requires removal with a screw driver.

I managed to find a replacement jet so I replaced my stock one, along with most of the internal carb parts that looked to be every bit of 41 years old. Mine has a Walbro LME-26, not sure what's on the engine in the pics.

If you want to read my thread detailing the carb rebuild and transaxle gear replacement see here: http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=100485.

Yea, I'm not totally disagreeing that it has seen better days. But I'm good with puttering on the new riders w/ vertical shaft engines and enjoy the old iron. I have pre 80's Bolens GT's. Just have never worked on the old JD's. The engine is a replacement from Northern Tool according to the PO, and hasn't got too much time on it. I'm not too sure about that based on looking at the muffler burned through on the face. But it is free and has compression. So I'm hoping for the best on it. Just have to clean out the tank, put new fuel lines and clean the carb. Thanks for the tip on not removing the main jet. I would have done exactly that in the soak cleaning of it.

I'll pop in every so often as I get any work done.

Keep us updated, like to see the progress.

The main jet issue only applies if it's a Walbro LME carb. Not sure what carb is on what you have and if it's still an issue.

There is a Walbro carb tech manual floating out on the Internet that will walk you through fixing their carbs.
