Saw a FREE Gravely 1138 posted on a local Craigs List board. Supposedly, it ran last year, but hasn't been started this year. Battery is dead.
I've already got 3 running tractors with belly mowers.
Should I go and get this one, to add to the fleet?
Is it worth it, or should I pass it up?
I know no more info than what is above.

Oh, it comes with a Toro of unknown type or condition.

You'd be crazy to not jump all over that. What's the worst that could happen? Worst case you have a lot of parts. Nothing wrong with that.

The 1138 is one of the "******* children" of the Gravely family - belt driven (vs. gear drive) and has the less favorable Briggs 11HP motor (vs. the Kohler engine). But I agree with the other posters - it's free, so why not grab it up? Put a couple dollars and some elbow grease into it and start mowing with it - who really cares that it's not gear driven?

get it running, clean it up, and get a couple hundred out of it to support you other 3 tractors.

At least it's the right color ... RED.
It'll match the other 'toy' sitting in the garage, that's just waiting for the page alert to go off and sound the house siren.

Well, it's back on the old local CL.
They've had much interest, but no takers. "It must be worth something", so now it's a trade for cobble stones.
Wonder what it will be for next week.

I would not give the time of day for that fake Gravely...

:ditto:

my 8123 would die of laughter if I parked that anywhere near it.
