I stopped by a local small engine repair shop to get some parts for a self propelled. The counter man told me to look around the yard and see if they had any used parts I needed.I came across the GT under the covered section. It's missing the hood & upper grill. The starter is faulty but the Onan turns by hand with some effort. The mowing deck is in good shape. He told me that it coul be mine for $75.What do you think? Sorry no pics I didn't have a camera.

75 is a cheap price for a deck, just the deck. so if you can get a whole tractor, onan included for 75, thats a steal
its a gt/18 twin by the way.. 77 or 78
I think your catching the bug. :fing20: Parts are worth the price.

Thanks Hugh.I thought that was a good price.I plan on picking it up next week.I'm wondering if the starter can be rebuilt?

Yes, most of the time.
Thanks Small Fry I thought it was worth the price.Yea your right on the bug I love the old sears tractors. They don't make them like they use to unless you spend 9 or 10 grand.
Man it shure would be nice to have another running Onan around just in case.
Starter might only have a piece of dirt or magnet between the coil and the permanent magnet. Easy to take apart, clean, and put back together.

Don't wait until next week, get it as soon as possible before someone else gets to it. I've lost some good (running) deals that way.

Its always nice to have a spare around, to swap parts when you run into a problem. Its frustrating when it snows and you need a coil or even just a plug wire. FWIW is was stumbling around the sears site one day and found a replacement Onan short block for mine is still available......for $2500!!! So I think $75 for a whole unit is a steal.

You're doing that backwards. Tell her about it as you're backing down the drive with it. :bannana:
