Hi i'm new to the site and i'm having a few problems with our Ford Lgt 125 if anyone can help us, we'd greatly appreciate it.

I have all numbers on tractor
Model no#09JC3221
Serial no#G120409
Engine no#K301AQS
Spec no#47606
Engine Serial#12130937

1st) the starter is turning the engine left:fing20: isn't the starter supposed to turn left so the engine can turn clockwise?
2nd) the engine would run great for 10 to 15 minutes and then shut off what would cause that?
3rd) tractor went to a guy and he made a mess of the wiring and the pto's wires are missing and the ignition wiring is :eek:mg: I don't know!!!!!!!!!!

does anyone have the wiring diagram for a 125 or a manual?

Tractor Has:
660 amp diehard battery
12 hp K301 engine
4 speed manual transmission
75 lbs. rear tire weights x2
side panels for hood were lost in garage fire 3/25/08
sleeve hitch, cultivator, plow sleeve, disc harrow, dozer blade, mower deck 44?-46?

Tryin to plant a garden this year, but it may be too late by time tractor is useable!!!:sidelaugh

Not understanding your 1st question....If the engine is starting, its turning the right way......it won't run backwards.

Engine shutting off.....Could be a few things,,,,,Coil over heating.....fuel filter plugging up...etc.

PTO....is just power to the electric clutch.....should be easy to rig something.

For a manual.........go to the Ford-Jacobsen group on Yahoo....

I have a wiring diagram I can e-mail you. E-mail me off group and let me know if you want it.
As for the running issues:
Poncho is right. It won't run backwards.
Shutting off after a short time could be a coil, fuel feed problem. Check for spark after it shuts off. If no spark, it may be the coil or points problem.
Check for fuel after it shuts off. Remove the fuel line from the carb and watch how much fuel comes out. The stream should be steady.:goodl:

the starter is doing this now turning backwards so it can't start, the satrter was serviced before for that problem and its doing it again?,it ran about a year ago and when it did run it would shut off.

sorry to confuse you like that

I'm a little confused on what the starter is doing. You said it's turning backwards? Only way I know how to get a motor to turn backwards is by switching the polarity. Positive to negative and negative to positive. You sure you have the battery hooked up correctly?
If you need a wiring diagram, let me know and I can e-mail you one. :goodl:

Even that won't make it turn backwards I believe.....The starter has to turn the right way for the centrifugal spline to cause the starter gear to slide up the shaft...........:banghead3

Starter is straight now:sorry1: :sorry1: It wasn't grounded good thats:banghead3 all. Now the engine won't fire.

Today i bought a few parts from NAPA and installed them. Tractor has just got new points,a new coil, 2 quarts of 30 Sae oil, $3.00 of mid grade gas, and a new briggs and stratton spark plug.:thThumbsU The plug and points are firing but the starter isn't turning fast under pressure.(even while trying to be jumped):banghead3 But when plug is removed, it'll turn the motor freely.:sidelaugh The inside of the starter is cracked on the magnetic walls and a few pieces chipped away. The tractor has Beaten 4:14_6_5: of us today we have 3 more people that have yet to try their hand.

Any suggestions? Anyone:hide:

Sounds like you need a new starter, or at least one that hasn't been beat on. Kohler starters don't like being struck with hammers as the permanent magnets inside break apart. The less magnets inside the starter, the weaker the starter will be. Go on e-bay under lawn and garden and look for a Kohler starter that's decent. Expect to pay about 40-60 bucks for it.
The bigger Kohlers have compression releases that reduce the compression while cranking to the increase the cranking speed for a better chance of a quick firing. If your starter can't even overcome the compression while being jumped, sounds like it's time to retire the starter for another one.
Be sure your ignition is in good shape. Check for spark and check for proper point gap since point gap is a function of ignition timing. Setting the points at .020" should get you in the ballpark.:goodl:

It's running now but the starter won't turn the motor like it should. We had to shoot 200 amps into the battery to jump it. I had new rings put in the motor and the cylinder honed out and cleaned 3 days ago. The motor is tight now it tries to catch but just won't. It may be the starter i'll price another one tonight.

I looked into getting the starter rebuilt and i found a place that said they could have it ready, so i'll take it to them either Tuesday or Friday and hopefully it'll be ready soon. Or if it's more costworthy the i'll go ahead and buy one. I went to Handy Rental in N.C. and they told me a new starter would run me $250 with tax and $9 delivery fee.

Also i want to know, I have another set of garden tractor tires with rims would it be a good idea to dual wheel the rear end or use the weights for gardening or plowing?

When you get the starter back and installed, try to check the resistance with an ohm meter between the starter case and the negative battery terminal. You said that you had a grounding problem earlier. If the grounds are not in top shape the starter will turn slower under load. I actually changed the negative cable on my LGT. I made it longer so that I could ground the battery right at the engine.

Either chains, wheel weights or filling the tires with liquid ballast will be easier on the rear axle seals than trying to go with dual wheels.

The Kohler's don't have to turn over very fast to start... I've got several with the old starter generator on them, and they start very well. Just choke for a second or so, leave throttle about 1/3 open... if the electrical and fuel are getting to it, it's start up.
