'Truth be told', I've lit the stove a few times already this season, but this is the first time i am doing it real (using the good wood).

Its supposed to be in the 20's low 30's tonight... its still semi warm. but the stove is going and ready, the season is starting a little early:Stop:

You guys using your fireplaces/woodstoves yet?

I had a fire on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. The lows were 38, 40, and 43. It felt really good.

Big difference today though. The thermometer hit 78 here today.

We have guests from FL and they always want a fire in the fireplace so last night and tonight we have a fire. It is about 55 deg outside here in E TN. I have a Jotul 500 beside the fireplace that will be installed this week.

Not burning yet, but just sticking my nose outside I don't think it'll be too long down the calendar. 40.5º now and 4 cords coming tomorrow w/2 left from last year. I "heard" that this winter is supposed to be colder than last. Let's hope it's snowy-ier too so I can at least use my blower attachment once.

I had my 1st fire of the season this past week. The wife is recovering from knee replacement surgery and was a bit cold one day so I got my Jotul fired up to take the chill out the air. I have 4+ cords all stacked and ready to go for the coming season. I really like coming in from out in the cold and feeling the warmth of a good fire. It was down to 37*F here this morning.

Had a fireplace fire and hot chocolate Friday night, really more for ambiance since my daughter came over. I threw an extra blanket on last night, and my wife is still sleeping with the skylight open and a fan on. Those hot flashes must be a bear.

I've used my wood stove in the garage several times already...nights get chilly here ,as soon as the last week of august we had a 37 degree low temp overnight and its dropped that low several times here nightly--last night we had our first frost here...

When I lit my stove for the first time, after using it for a wastebasket all summer long, full of potato chip bags and dozens of plastic water bottles,I didn't have to put any wood in it for almost an hour...there was a black mushroom cloud over my yard for awhile!..:D
Looks like I might have to keep an eye out for some new 55 gallon drums, the ones I made my stoves from in the early 1990's are finally getting ready to rust thru...might use a water heater tank next time instead, they are a lot thicker, and will likely outlive me..

Anyone cook on their wood stoves??..I like to put soup and stews on the stove to simmer while I'm working, nothing tastes better than that when its been on for hours..warms you up better than the stove does too!..

I lit the pilot in the propane heater in the back room. Turne dit on long enough to fry all the stink bugs that thought it was good place to hang out. :fing32:

click for big pic

I have since installed the moulding around the tile. That was right after I laid the tile.

The Harman insert which we burn coal in won't get lit for about another month.

The Franco-Belge oil burner in the basement ( gravity feed -- works without electricity :fing32: ) will get lit in another couple weeks.

Approaching mid-Nov. along the IL/WI border and we've only run the furnace one night so far! Had a wood fire burning in the fireplace most days since mid-Oct. I cut and split (ALL by hand!) 3 cords of oak, maple, hickory and elm (I HATE spaghetti wood!!!) this past spring and summer. Still had almost a cord onhand from last year that should get me well into the season. Had a cutting trip planned today, but called it off due to the rain. No reason to be uncomfortable when I don't have to, right!
