I had a really weird thing happen yesterday. Started mowing for about a minute then a significant vibration started. Shutdown mower, and it stopped. Drove up to garage and turn mower back only to see the right blade, bolt and washer go flying out up into the garage. Fortunately, didn't hit anything. Took deck off, reinstalled a different blade since the blade that flew off had some damage from hitting something on its attempted escape, and started checking stuff, found nothing. Put deck back on, still did it. Took off again, removed belt guards and looking around found a chunk of wood wedged in the same pulley over the blade that flew off. Had to pry it out with a screwdriver. Put covers back on, installed deck and mowed for an hour, no problem.

Would that chunk of wood have caused that blade to loosen that quickly? Just had them off for sharp blade exchange about 2 running hours ago. I put them on with an impact same as I have for 20 years. BTW all three blades were cutting fine until vibration started.

yeah that piece of wood could of caused all your problems. Strange things happen..... I don't believe that it is necessary to use an impact on your blades. I don't and have never lost a blade (knock on wood).

if that chunk of wood was wedged in the 'V' grove of the pulley...it would have made an egg shaped travel route for the belt....causin a surge/slowdown action to the blade.. causin it to come loose

Hi Whirly,

Sounds like you have a good grasp of the physics behind the issue.

At least I'm buying it, THANKS!:thThumbsU
