finally got to use my blade!

I just got done plowing the driveway with my new blade. We had about five inches. This is my first time using it, and I have to say I am very impressed. The amount of snow i pushed was unreal. After I bought the blade I painted it and got a new wear strip. I bought one of the plastic ones off ebay for 45$. It seems to work well. I was worried about how well I would be able to steer with the 300, but just having a little snow on the ground made it much easier than when I was trying it on dry pavement. So far all I have are filled tires for weight and that seemed to work good, at least until I slid in the ditch:banghead3 oops! but it only took a couple of minutes to get out. Overall it went great and I am very happy with it!!

I need a new edge for my blade.

Wonder how that plastic is going to hold up for you, do you have a link for that?
here is the link

Its pretty beefy, and I think it will be easier on the driveway. I searched through all of the feedback from the seller and saw nothing but positive comments on it, but time will tell

Lets us know how it works for you, in the mean time I'm gonna fab a steel cheap one myself.
I have the same 54" blade for our tractor. After 3 seasons of plowing I realized that a rubber edge was a good idea. Bought the Deere one, but it wore out in one season. I found a company in Kenosha that sells conveyor belting. They took some SCRAP material and cut me 4 edges out of high density rubber with Kevlar cloth lining. I put one on last season and in ten hours of plowing it wore 1/16". The other three spares are drilled and ready if I ever need them. Total cost for the 4 edges was $25.00, they cut them on a water jet. Let's just say you don't want to try to cut them with any saw.

Glad you got to use it! Mine is still sitting in the garage all nice and dry because the snow just didn't come like it was forcasted.

Well I bit the bullet and ordered me one of these today, hope I didn't waste 53 bucks.

well i used it again today and I gotta say it seems to work great. I guess the real test will be to see how long it holds up. I saw in another post somewhere that someone was able to find the material these are made of (uhmw poly) and was able to make like 3 for 30$ but Im not sure where the material was found. Id be interested to know if anyone else has used the same type, and how it held up. If the claims made on the ebay listing are true then I think this is the way to go.

Grainger or McMaster-Carr can sell the UHMW products.

I bought 2 pieces of 1" x 4.25" x 54" UHMW Poly from a guy on ebay for $50 shipped. I cut one in half so that I could make two 2" wide wear edges. I put one on. I have only had to plow the driveway once, but I have moved dirt with it numerous times. At 1" thick, it seems to be really tough and I think it will wear quite well. I will be able to get 4 wear edges out of the material I bought. The friction between the UHMW Poly and the paved driveway is very low even when I put down pressure on it to scrape packed snow.

We had about 2 inches of snow last night that was slushy when it came down then froze overnight so I decide to use my 300 with the 54 inch blade instead of my X300 and the blower. The blade with that plastic edge worked like a champ and the 300 absolutely bulldozed through the frozen snow but one thing I have decided is absolutely necessary which I don't have is the power angle, sure wish I would have held out until I found me one at the right price....:banghead3

I now know what's going to be my next project.

How did the plastic do when you were pushing onto the yard? That is one thing I like about my Rubber edges, it doesn't tear up the grass. :trink40:

It did great in the grass, just kinda bent it over some but never dug into it at all, the plastic has a kind of round edge (for now) so I'm sure that's why. I'm curious to see how it holds up after several uses.

I got about 3-4" here just south of town. slkpk
Ive used my blade with plastic edge about six times now and I really dont see any wear. I will say that I have taken out a few chunks of the lawn. Ive been trying to lift the blade up about an inch when I get to the edge of the drive before I push the snow into the yard. It works ok like that.
I purchased one of these for my 54" last season ans it is working great for winter snow and summer grading. They make them for our JD blades. The pricing is great.
