Finally Got Some Bucket Hooks

2994 Views 20 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  stretch
Picked up a set of hooks yesterday for $20.00 cash. very heavy duty with a nice pad in the hook area to support the chain link. Had to cut the ends off as they are Clevis grab hooks and do some grinding but they should work well. We decided to weld them to the tops of the quick couplings as that seems to be the strongest part of the bucket. A couple pics for the masses although it was dark when I got home from the machine shop with it.

Don't laugh... When we were putting them on last night we got yackin and the first one ended up tacked on backwards... Good thing he caught it before he did the full weld.

Nice job, you'll find many uses for them! :)

The hooks look great. I use mine a lot and can't imagine not having them. They are just the trick! :fing32:
They do look nice and I have a set myself. After using mine over the years, I'm planning on making one for the center of my bucket, because when you really pull on one corner, that opposite rear wheel causes, a serious pucker factor.
They look like they will do the job :fing32: :fing32: .. One of these days I will get a set for my bucket .. Rite now I have a 2" hitch ball bolted to the top middle of the bucket .. works OK for some things .. but being able to lock in the chain or chains on the ends will work MUCH better

JDDEERE2210,

Goods advice. You either need proper ballast and/or need to pay attention to evening the load between the hooks. :)

I think ensuring the load is evenly distributed between the hooks is very important so one does not tweak the loader frame.
Nice work Saskman, I certainly find mine one of the most useful additions I've done. Now you can get that mower cleaned easier!
My dealer welded mine on in the same place and the have worked very well I think it is the strongest part of the bucket.
Seeing as how I just ordered my 2305 tonight, are these hooks as handy as they appear? Should I get my dealer to do it as soon as it comes in? I can think of plenty of things that require a chain but are there other places to attach the chain? Do these hooks just make using a chain easier or are they pretty much required?

Please excuse all the questions...I'm a city boy trying to branch out not that I live in the country.

I think having the chain hooks as shown is mandatory, when my dealer was preping my 2305 I requested that he weld on some 3/8 chain hooks which he did for free. I use them all the time, makes the tractor more versatile. I liked them so much I welded one on my backhoe bucket.
Having fought with chains to hold stuff in the bucket like my 50" snowblower etc and having to wrap the chains around and get them jammed and having seen these in use, I will IMO state that they are one of the cheapest most useful additions you will ever make to a cut. It is beyond me why they are not standard like they are on some of the big Deere machines. But I guess a buck is a buck at the manufacturer level.

saskman49, they look great!:thThumbsU
I just got my dealer to throw them in for free on the new bucket when it arrives. I'm glad I saw this thread.
mercdv, you made the right choice (well not much choice since you go them for free). I had my dealer add hooks too at the last minute but they cost me $100 for both. Couldn't have moved this rock, for example, without them. Works great for toting my deck around or even holding it vertical for me while I give it a cleaning. (Sorry Deere guys, just pretend the tractor is green :D)
