I have slaved for many hours trying to get my 318 in the best working order I can. I paid 200 bucks for it and the blade together from my father in law ( lots of love to him) and it was a dirty mess. Had sat in a cow barn for 12 years! But it did run and everything worked ok accept the power steering cylinder was pouring fluid out.

So after working in the garage all day today I finally got her ready. Most of my previous work had been all cleaning up. Today I installed a brand new steering cylinder, changed the hydro fluid and filter, change engine oil, and put all the pieces back together. Doesn't sound like alot but it took alot of work and the hydro filter was on tighter than Fort Knox.

Anyway still have some cosmetic work. I kinda like the used and rustic look it has...not sure I want it shiny new looking. Those ugly gray wheels will be next project to fix. But I mounted the grader blade up and it works like a charm. I definite need some ag tires and some weight added. The engine I notice does have a slight rod knock I believe. I'm not going to sweat about it though. I don't plan on mowing with it....just towing a trailer and pushing some brush around. I can probably baby it a long time before it gives out.

Glad you got it going! :fing32:
Post some info and pictures of the Super A! I love the old Farmalls also!
Yea I'm a big Farmall fan. I love those old things they are a real pleasure. I got the Super A down for brake repairs. I actually used to mow my property exclusively with it. Has a 60 inch woods belly mower and does a good job of it. It's a 53 model and that old engine runs like a sewing machine

My 80 year neighbor lady has a 42 B she kept after me to restore for he,last year I had it sandblasted and repainted it,turned out Fantastic,it had not run in 35 years but was always in the barn,I had the carb rebuilt, put new plugs in and figured I would have to pull it to start but that thing turned about 6 turns and started and no smoke.

Hello Johnny Reb
Glad you got that 318 running. I would suggest that you look into the connecting rod issue before using it much. It is Not uncommon for the Onan's to break a connecting rod and keep running that way, so I would check the compression in both cylinder's before running it much to just see if it is making good compression on both cylinder's and that you do not have a broken rod to avoid any further damage. I Like your Farmall Super-A. I have had two. The first one shown was the one I grew up with it was a 1954 Model. I was so young when my Dad Put me in the seat of it that he had to Place 4 wood blocks on the clutch and brake pedals so that I could reach them as I was just Seven years old. I used to spread Pony Manure with it as we had a chain drive New Idea Manure spreader for it and my Dad built the snow plow shown on it, and I did the clear coat Red Farmall paint job on it.

The second one is the Rarely seen Farmall 100. They made the 100's from 1956-1958 time span & it is a Super-A chassis with a Super-C engine in it. The Super-A's came with a 113 C.I. Engine and the Model 100's came with the 123 CI engines in them. It had fast hitch where you simply backed the Tractor into a Tong on the Impliment and raised it without ever leaving the seat. It had a trip lever on the top of the hitch that was spring loaded that I ran a Rope down to it which allowed me to hook and drop the Implement's without leaving the seat. I had to convert all of the Three Point hitch Impliment's to this fast hitch for it. It was a Real Powerhouse, I rebuilt the engine with the Highest horsepower Engine kit available with fire dome pistons Bumping up the engine's compression making it a True 26 Horsepower Tractor. Regards, Hammerdown

Wow nice setup hammerdown! I didn't know the Super A would be such a hit on the John Deere Forum lol

A 26 horsepower A is a stout little tractor. My 53 is only rated at 16 horsepower I believe. It's weird how low the HP is rated on them compared to how strong they really are. Mine pulls that 60 inch 3 blade mower no problem and will drag a plow like nothing's behind it. I've retired it from mowing but plan on getting a dozer blade for the fromt of it.

As for the 318 engine making some noise....they dealer recommended their 10-30 oil for it so that's what I put in. I'm starting to regret that choice for a worn onan that's 30 years old. I think a thicker oil may quiet it down some and if it doesn't ill know I have a problem.

Here's a better pic of the Farmall
