WOOOHOOOOOO!!! R7070, it needs is a carb and the rear bagger is gone. It turns over smooth, great compression...Too cold outside to give it a real good look-see. I am in need of a carb and filter box if anyone has one. sorry about the crap photos, it's cold outside and my hands were shaking. more pics later...

Nice find! Is that a WHITE chute cover? I'm sure there's a line of people looking for one of those for a liberty machine! Which also begs the question if the guy you got this from had the white cover, did he have a liberty machine hiding somewhere??

That's an aluminium deck... I thought the Promo models were all steel deck?

oh yeah great eye! that does look like a liberty side shoot. I would go right back there and see if he does have an entire machine.

I had a promo too and it was also aluminum deck.

Thanks! I've been on the lookout for a promo for a while now...and finally...for $10. The white is just a piece of sheetmetal unfortunately. If that was a Liberty chute, I'd be tearing that guy's property to pieces looking for the rest of it. ;) I don't know much about the promos, so I can't say if they were mostly steel decks or not. but yes, it is an aluminum deck. The mower overall is in great shape, and if you look close at the carb, you can see where he has a plastic bag over it. That gives me the impression that he really cares about his equipment. BTW, is the airbox supposed to be green or yellow?

Gawd, I can't wait to use it...

Ok, I just was going by the ones I've seen on Ebay and on here, seems some of them I've seen were steel decks for some reason.

I'm happy to finally know what the Promo model was for though! I've never really known what they were promoting.

They were all aluminum decks for the 2 model years. This model was specifically used to "promote" the F series engine.
What else did they promote with these mowers? I've had no luck finding out on the interwebs.

Hey Coolted
i have a carb if you want it. Very nice Find. I just serviced the same mower for a guy here in my home town. He owns property down the road from me and he has 4 lawnboys that I fixed for him. All were out of commision for at least 10 years. He has the same one as you have here, a 1970 Brick top model 7021 that is in absolutly mint condition, also a 1978 Model year 8238AE that looks like showroom condition, and a 1979 utility mower that I transformed into a 21" push mower with the mag deck and the d-600 series mounting plate and muffler. The promo he has is just like yours and in excellent condition. His is missing the left hand solid state decal but that is about all. The paint looks like new. He at first said he didn't need 4 mowers, but after I fixed them all up, he realizes that he is in love with them especially since they were all his family members mowers. I have got him into the collecting mode now.
Great finds.
PM me if you want a carb for that and also an airfilter cover.

Can't remember where I read it, as it's been awhile but OMC had a slow start in sales with the F series when it debuted in '78. With slight deck changes, the new engine had quite a few changes. Try and google it, and you may come up with the info. The pre-compliant F has always been my favorite in terms of reliability, performance and over all ease of maintenance.

I own a few Promos myself, I had one a few years ago when no one knew what they were LOL. As echoman stated, they were made to promote the F engine, How i dont know other than the interesting colors. Many people also thought they were made for John Deere but we never did see any John Deere labled ones(although later lawn boy did build a mower for JD with an f engine but was jd green and black) Im a big fan of them, excellent mower. I also have a just about mint condition promo(not the one in my avatar) that is all original down to the spark plug i believe except for the coil which i needed replaced.

The Promos were made in both steel deck and aluminum deck. I had a steel deck model at one time but wound up parting it out. The steel deck push model is 7071, the sp model is 8071 and the aluminum deck models are R7070 push and the sp model is 8070.

BTW excellent find at an amazing price!

I might have a carb for that engine floating around here somewhere. The airbox should be molded as part of the carb and the cover should be a separate piece. Do you know what color the cover should be?? Green or black? I don't think they were ever yellow.

After a good lookin-at, I think this is one of the better "F" engined mowers I've picked up. Very little side play in the crank, turns over very smooth, great compresion, wheel and adjusters good, deck good, almost unnoticeable discoloration in the shroud. The recoil even seems good....(I don't know how). I think it will get seals and bearings just because. Perhaps I'll try a restoration...never done one before, but after seeing what some people do here, I'm tempted. My main worry is finding decals.

Jimbird, thanks for the offer, Indy had one and we've made a deal already.

I still can't upload pics...anyone else having this problem?
